Croisière Des Sables Expeditions
Croisiere des Sables Expeditions were an attempt to pass through the entirety of the Sahara desert in 1977. The convoy consisted of seven vehicles manufactured by Saviem. The purpose was to demonstrate its new 4×4 trucks capable of long-distant travel, and to place beacons along its route. Routes ; Imperial Track The road from Morocco to Mauritania was the Imperial Track, located in a dangerous unmarked area. Ever since its creation, the route has hardly changed. ; Cape Verde Red Sea Axis The Cape Verde Red Sea Axis is a west-east route. The Saviem SM8 (8-ton payload) was a range of medium-duty trucks manufactured by the French manufacturer Saviem between 1967 and 1975. The truck was part of the Saviem SM range. The Yellow Expedition () was a French trans-Asian expedition in 1931 and 1932. It was organized by Citroën in order to promote their P17 Kégresse track vehicles. The expedition started in Beirut, the capital of Mandate for Syria and the Lebanon, French Lebanon, and Beijing, the capital of China. The Mission Berliet Ténéré and the subsequent Mission Berliet Tchad were two trans-Sahara expeditions organised by the French truck manufacturer, Berliet. The expeditions demonstrated the ability of Berliet trucks to cross long stretches of desert and wilderness, and also supported geographical and scientific research. Expeditions The first expedition set out from Ouargla in November 1959, heading south into the Sahara for Djanet, past Adrar Bous and resupply in Agadez.
