Azad Sporting Club
Azad Sporting Club (), also referred as Azad SC, is an association football club based in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The club was considered one of the pioneers of Bengali football in East Pakistan and participated in the Dhaka First Division Football League until relegation in 1985. The club has been inactive in the domestic football circuit since the turn of the century. History Azad Sporting Club was formed in 1949 by Bengali writers and cultural organizers. Renowned artist Quamrul Hassan chose the colour and designed the club's kit. MA Kayum and Anwar Hossain were appointed as the club's president and general secretary, respectively. They entered the Dhaka Second Division League and were promoted to the First Division within two years after winning the Second Division, becoming joint champions with Fire Service SC in 1950. Elias Hossain
Elias Hossain is a retired Bangladeshi footballer who played as an attacking midfielder. He played for the Bangladesh national team from 1983 to 1989. He also captained the national team during the 1989 South Asian Games. Elias is also the only player from Gopalganj to play for the Bangladesh national team. He is currently working as an executive director for the Bangladesh Football Federation. Club career In 1977, the Jubilee Rangers took on Friends Club, which was the Gopalganj First Division title deciding match. Elias Hossain played as a substitute for Jubilee Rangers in that match. Khandoker Mohammad Nurunnabi
Khandoker Mohammad Nurunnabi (31 July 1946 – 8 December 2016) was a Bangladesh Army Major General who served in the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971. He was awarded the National Sports Awards in 2002, for his contribution to Bangladeshi football as a member of the Shadhin Bangla football team. Football career In 1963, Nurunnabi began his football career by joining Azad Sporting Club, where he played until 1964. The following year, Nurunnabi's fulfilled his dream of playing for Mohammedan SC, who were at the time the most popular team in East Pakistan. During his time with the Black & Whites he played alongside group of legendary players like Zakaria Pintoo, Pratap Shankar Hazra, Mohamed Kaikobad and Golam Sarwar Tipu. Chinghla Mong Chowdhury Mari
Chinghla Mong Chowdhury Mari (; 29 September 1938 – 10 May 2012), commonly known as Mari Chowdhury, was a Bangladeshi football player who played as a left-winger. He is considered to be the best East Pakistani footballer of all time, and one of the few East Pakistanis to play for the Pakistan national team. Despite the fact that most of his goals are unregistered, Mari is the unrecognised all-time top scorer in both Dhaka First Division League and Bangladeshi top-tier football history with 234 goals. Abdus Salam Murshedy (born 6 October 1963) is a Bangladeshi politician, entrepreneur and former national team football player. Shahidur Rahman Shantoo
Shahidur Rahman Chowdhury (; born 17 November 1947), known by his nickname Shantoo, is a former Bangladeshi football player and manager. Club career In 1966, after giving his SSC examination in Rangpur, he moved to Dhaka. His football career started the same year for Azad Sporting Club in the First Division, after impressing Azad coach Ranjit Das. However, before playing domestic football in Dhaka, he played in the inter-district team for Rangpur and the divisional team for Rajshahi, where his team reached the district final against Dhaka. Monwar Hossain Nannu
Monwar Hossain Nannu (; 27 August 1948 – 16 February 2008) was a Bangladeshi football player during the 1970s and early 1980s. Initially, he played as an attacking midfielder for Abahani Krira Chakra in the First Division. Following an injury in the mid-1970s, he moved to the central defender position and excelled in that position as well. He was a member of Bangladesh's first national football team. East Pakistan was the eastern province of Pakistan between 1955 and 1971, restructured and renamed from the province of East Bengal and covering the territory of the modern country of Bangladesh.
