António Reis (politician)
António Ferreira Gonçalves dos Reis, known as António Reis (27 August 1925 – 10 September 1991), was a Portuguese film director, screenwriter and producer, poet, sculptor and ethnographer. He occupies an original place in the history of Portuguese film. Life Reis was born in 1925 in Vila Nova de Gaia. He was also teacher at the Lisbon Theatre and Film School for several years. Reis died in Lisbon in September 10, 1991, of undetermined causes. Margarida Cordeiro, psychiatrist, was assistant director to ''Jaime'' (1974) and co-director of ''Trás-os-Montes'' (1976), ''Ana'' (1985) and ''Rosa de Areia'' (1989). Legacy Teaching António Reis taught classes at the Portuguese National Film School, such as Filmic Space in 1977, and later Film Analysis, History of Image, Direction of Actors and Introduction to the Study of Image. Valadares (Vila Nova De Gaia)
Valadares is a former Freguesia (Portugal), civil parish in the municipality of Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal. In 2013, the parish merged into the new parish Gulpilhares e Valadares. The population in 2011 was 10,678, in an area of 5.14 km2. Today the shoreside vicinity is very popular for its nightlife and the bars along its well-known beach. It is also possible to see some old sanatoriums used mostly in the 1940s and 1950s to treat people suffering from bone fractures and diseases like tuberculosis. João Pedro Rodrigues (born 24 August 1966) is a Portuguese film director. He is considered to be part of The School of Reis. Career Having studied at the School of Theatre and Cinema of Portugal, Rodrigues started his career as an assistant director and editor in several features, directed, for example, by Alberto Seixas Santos and Teresa Villaverde. In 1997, Rodrigues directed his first film '' O Fantasma (Phantom)'' (2000). Pedro Costa (born 30 December 1958) is a Portuguese film director. He is best known for his sequence of films set in Lisbon, which focuses on the lives of the impoverished residents of a slum in the Fontainhas neighbourhood. Biography After completing a degree in history from the University of Lisbon, Costa worked as an assistant for Jorge Silva Melo, Vítor Gonçalves and João Botelho. Vítor Gonçalves is a Portuguese filmmaker, film director, screenwriter and film producer. He is considered to be part of The School of Reis film family. Career Vítor Gonçalves was born in 1951 to Vasco Gonçalves. In 1979, he graduated from the Escola de Cinema do Conservatório Nacional (now School of Theatre and Cinema, Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema) with a degree in filmmaking, where he was a student of António Reis. Joaquim Sapinho (born 1965 at Sabugal, Portugal) is a Portuguese film director. Founder of production company Rosa Filmes, he is considered to be part of ''The School of Reis'' film family.
