2025 Ýokary Liga
The 2025 Ýokary Liga is the 33rd edition of the top tier professional Yokary Liga football annual competition in Turkmenistan administered by the Football Federation of Turkmenistan. FK Arkadag entered the season as the two-time defending champions, having won their 2nd consecutive league title in the previous season. Ýokary Liga
The Turkmenistan Higher League, also called Türkmenistan Ýokary Liga ( Turkmen: ''Ýokary liga futbol klublarynyň arasyndaky futbol boýunça Türkmenistanyň çempionaty''), is the top division of professional football in Turkmenistan, operated by the Turkmenistan Football Federation. It was founded in 1992. Nine clubs participate in the Higher League of the Turkmenistan National Championship. The season runs between April and November. There are 9 teams in the competition. As of the 2024 season, the league had one AFC Champions League Two qualifying spot for the league winner league. Since the introduction of the Turkmenistan Higher League in 1992, Altyn Asyr (8 times), Köpetdag (6 times), Nebitçi (4 times), Nisa (4 times), Ýedigen (4 times), Arkadag (2 times), Aşgabat (2 times), Ahal (1 time) and Şagadam (1 time) have won the title. Arkadag
Arkadag (Turkmen ''arka'' "behind" + ''dag'' "mountain", connoting "protector") is a city in southern Turkmenistan. It became the regional capital of Ahal Province effective 20 December 2022. It is a largely greenfield development started in 2019 with an initial budget of $1.5 billion. The city was named in honor of former president Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, father of sitting president Serdar Berdimuhamedow, who is officially entitled ''Arkadag''. Uniquely among Turkmen cities, Arkadag is by law designated a "city of state importance". Geography The city is situated on a plain due west of the city limit of Turkmenistan's capital city, Ashgabat, and east of the neighboring city of Geok Tepe, Gökdepe at latitude 38.0659 degrees north and longitude 58.0727 degrees east. Mary, Turkmenistan
Mary (; Cyrillic: Мары) is a city on an oasis in the Karakum Desert in Turkmenistan, located on the Murgab River. It was founded in 1884 about from the ruins of the ancient abandoned great city of Merv and was actually named Merv until 1937. Mary is the capital city of Mary Region. In 2022, Mary had a population of 167,000, up from 92,000 in the 1989 census. Etymology Atanyýazow notes that the name "Muru" appears in Zoroastrian texts alongside the toponyms Sogd (Sogdia) and Bakhti (Bactria), and that the name "Margiana" appears carved into rocks at Behistun, Iran, dating back 2,500 years. Köpetdag Stadium
Köpetdag Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan. It is currently used mostly for football matches and serves as the home for Köpetdag Aşgabat, that currently plays in the Ýokary Liga. The stadium holds 26,503 people and was built in 1997. The Balkanabat Sports Complex or Sport Toplumy Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Balkanabat, Turkmenistan. It is currently used mostly for football matches and serves as the home for Nebitçi FT. The stadium holds 10,000 people. It is located near the Balkanabat Health Trail, in close proximity to the ridge of the Uly Balkan. History The sports complex opened on 14 October 2009. Balkan Region
Balkan Region () is the westernmost of the five regions of Turkmenistan. Clockwise from north it borders Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan (north); two provinces of Turkmenistan (east), Iran (south), and the Caspian Sea (west). The capital city is Balkanabat, formerly known as Nebit Dag. The region's boundaries are identical to those of the former ''Krasnovodsk Oblast''', a Soviet-era province of the Turkmen Soviet Socialist Republic with its capital in the city of Krasnovodsk. This oblast was liquidated and restored repeatedly in the 20th century, concluding with its abolition in 1988. Balkanabat
Balkanabat (), formerly Nebit-Dag and Neftedag, is the administrative centre of Balkan Province, the largest province in Turkmenistan. It lies at the foot of the Balkan Daglary mountain range. Balkanabat is about 450 km west of Ashgabat and 160 km east of the seaport city of Türkmenbaşy. The city layout is a grid of apartment blocks called ''kvartal'' (quarters). The main streets are Magtymguly, Pervomayskiy and Gurbansoltan eje şaýoly. Buzmeyin Sport Complex () is a stadium in Büzmeýin District, Ashgabat, Turkmenistan. It is currently used mostly for football matches. It has a capacity of 10,000 people. It is the home of Ýokary Liga club Altyn Asyr FK. It was called Abadan Sport Complex until 2018. History The sports complex opened in June 2009 in Abadan city. Ashgabat (Turkmen language, Turkmen: ''Aşgabat'') is the capital city, capital and largest city of Turkmenistan. It lies between the Karakum Desert and the Kopet Dag, Kopetdag mountain range in Central Asia, approximately 50 km (30 mi) away from the Iran-Turkmenistan border. Altyn Asyr FK
Football Club Altyn Asyr (), also known as Altyn Asyr Ashgabat or simply Altyn Asyr, which translates to ''Golden Century'', is a Turkmen professional football club based in Ashgabat. Founded in 2008, the club competes in the Ýokary Liga, the top tier of Turkmen football. It has remained there ever since, winning the Turkmenistan Higher League championship eight times in a row (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021). The Ashgabat Stadium () is a multi-purpose stadium in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan. It is currently used mostly for celebrations and football matches. The stadium holds 20,000 people and was built in 2011. Ahal Region (; from , also ) is one of five regions of Turkmenistan, provinces of Turkmenistan.
