2023 Ýokary Liga
The 2023 Ýokary Liga was the 31st edition of the top tier professional Yokary Liga Association football, football annual competition in Turkmenistan administered by the Football Federation of Turkmenistan. The champions were determined on the 23rd matchday, played on 3rd December 2023. FK Arkadag claimed their first championship title, defeating FC Altyn Asyr by 4–0. FK Arkadag won the Liga in 2023 without dropping a single point. This feat came within a 24 matches winning streak, from 18 April to 20 December 2023, a national record. Altyn Asyr finished second to Arkadag. Ýokary Liga
The Turkmenistan Higher League, also called Türkmenistan Ýokary Liga ( Turkmen: ''Ýokary liga futbol klublarynyň arasyndaky futbol boýunça Türkmenistanyň çempionaty''), is the top division of professional football in Turkmenistan, operated by the Turkmenistan Football Federation. It was founded in 1992. Nine clubs participate in the Higher League of the Turkmenistan National Championship. The season runs between April and November. There are 9 teams in the competition. As of the 2024 season, the league had one AFC Champions League Two qualifying spot for the league winner league. Since the introduction of the Turkmenistan Higher League in 1992, Altyn Asyr (8 times), Köpetdag (6 times), Nebitçi (4 times), Nisa (4 times), Ýedigen (4 times), Arkadag (2 times), Aşgabat (2 times), Ahal (1 time) and Şagadam (1 time) have won the title. Arkadag
Arkadag (Turkmen ''arka'' "behind" + ''dag'' "mountain", connoting "protector") is a city in southern Turkmenistan. It became the regional capital of Ahal Province effective 20 December 2022. It is a largely greenfield development started in 2019 with an initial budget of $1.5 billion. The city was named in honor of former president Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, father of sitting president Serdar Berdimuhamedow, who is officially entitled ''Arkadag''. Uniquely among Turkmen cities, Arkadag is by law designated a "city of state importance". Mary Region () is one of five provinces in Turkmenistan. It is located in the south-east of the country, bordering Afghanistan. Its capital is the city of Mary. Balkan Region
Balkan Region () is the westernmost of the five regions of Turkmenistan. Clockwise from north it borders Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan (north); two provinces of Turkmenistan (east), Iran (south), and the Caspian Sea (west). The capital city is Balkanabat, formerly known as Nebit Dag. The region's boundaries are identical to those of the former ''Krasnovodsk Oblast''', a Soviet-era province of the Turkmen Soviet Socialist Republic with its capital in the city of Krasnovodsk. The Balkanabat Sports Complex or Sport Toplumy Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Balkanabat, Turkmenistan. It is currently used mostly for football matches and serves as the home for Nebitçi FT. The stadium holds 10,000 people. It is located near the Balkanabat Health Trail, in close proximity to the ridge of the Uly Balkan. History The sports complex opened on 14 October 2009. Balkanabat
Balkanabat (), formerly Nebit-Dag and Neftedag, is the administrative centre of Balkan Province, the largest province in Turkmenistan. It lies at the foot of the Balkan Daglary mountain range. Balkanabat is about 450 km west of Ashgabat and 160 km east of the seaport city of Türkmenbaşy. The city layout is a grid of apartment blocks called ''kvartal'' (quarters). The main streets are Magtymguly, Pervomayskiy and Gurbansoltan eje şaýoly. Etymology The town was founded in 1933 as Neftedag, meaning "Oil Mountain" (Russian ''neft'', "oil", and Turkmen ''dag'', "mountain"), as a settlement along one of the stations of the Trans-Caspian Railway. Buzmeyin Sport Complex () is a stadium in Büzmeýin District, Ashgabat, Turkmenistan. It is currently used mostly for football matches. It has a capacity of 10,000 people. It is the home of Ýokary Liga club Altyn Asyr FK. It was called Abadan Sport Complex until 2018. History The sports complex opened in June 2009 in Abadan city. Ashgabat (Turkmen language, Turkmen: ''Aşgabat'') is the capital city, capital and largest city of Turkmenistan. Altyn Asyr FK
Football Club Altyn Asyr (), also known as Altyn Asyr Ashgabat or simply Altyn Asyr, which translates to ''Golden Century'', is a Turkmen professional football club based in Ashgabat. Founded in 2008, the club competes in the Ýokary Liga, the top tier of Turkmen football. It has remained there ever since, winning the Turkmenistan Higher League championship eight times in a row (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021). The Ashgabat Stadium () is a multi-purpose stadium in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan. It is currently used mostly for celebrations and football matches. The stadium holds 20,000 people and was built in 2011.
