2020–21 San Jose Sharks Season
The 2020–21 San Jose Sharks season was the List of San Jose Sharks seasons, 30th season for the National Hockey League franchise that was established on May 9, 1990. On December 20, 2020, the league temporarily realigned into four divisions with no conferences due to the COVID-19 pandemic in North America, COVID-19 pandemic and the ongoing closure of the Canada–United States border. As a result of this realignment, the Sharks will play this season in the West Division (NHL), West Division and will play games against only the other teams in their new division during the regular season and potentially the first two rounds of the playoffs. West Division (NHL)
The West Division of the National Hockey League existed from 1967–68 NHL season, 1967 until 1973–74 NHL season, 1974 when the league realigned into two conferences of two divisions each. The division was reformed for the 2020–21 NHL season (and branded as the Honda West Division for sponsorship reasons) due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 1967 the NHL doubled in size, going from six teams to twelve. The Original Six, as the pre-1967 teams became retroactively known, were grouped into the East Division (NHL), East Division, while the expansion teams were placed into the West Division. This was done in order to keep teams of similar competitive strength in the same division, regardless of geographic distance, and to ensure playoff revenue for the new franchises. Ozzy Wiesblatt
Ozzy Wiesblatt (born March 9, 2002) is a Canadian professional ice hockey right winger for the Milwaukee Admirals of the American Hockey League (AHL), while under contract to the Nashville Predators of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was drafted in the first round, 31st overall, by the San Jose Sharks in the 2020 NHL entry draft. He made his NHL debut with the Predators in January 2025.
