2017 Alpine Skiing World Cup – Women's Slalom
The women's slalom in the 2017 FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup involved 10 events, including one parallel slalom (a city event, which only allows for 16 competitors) and the season finale in Aspen, Colorado (USA). Defending champion Mikaela Shiffrin from the United States won seven of the ten races for the season, podiumed in two more, and clinched the discipline title before the finals -- ultimately winning the season championship by over 250 points; this was Shiffrin's fourth discipline championship in slalom. Her win enabled Shiffrin to equal the record set by the great 1970s Swedish skier Ingemar Stenmark of winning four World Cup slalom season titles before the age of 22. Slalom is an alpine skiing and alpine snowboarding discipline, involving skiing between poles or gates. These are spaced more closely than those in giant slalom, super-G, super giant slalom and Downhill (ski competition), downhill, necessitating quicker and shorter turns. Nina Haver-Løseth (born 27 February 1989) is a retired Norwegian World Cup alpine ski racer and specializes in the technical events of slalom and giant slalom. Šárka Strachová (, née Záhrobská ; born on 11 February 1985) is a retired Czech World Cup alpine ski racer. Born in Benecko, she specializes in the slalom event. Strachová is the first alpine racer representing the Czech Republic to medal at the Winter Olympics and at the World Championships and just the second Czech alpine skier ever to medal in the Olympics. Frida Marie Hansdotter (born 13 December 1985) is a Swedish former World Cup alpine ski racer and Olympic champion. She competed in the technical events and specialised in slalom. Veronika Velez-Zuzulová ( Zuzulová; born 15 July 1984) is a retired Slovak alpine ski racer. Born in Bratislava, she specialised in the slalom and was the most successful Slovak alpine skier before Petra Vlhová. She was coached by her father Timotej Zuzula and Vladimír Kovár.
