2016 Serbian Protests
The 2016 Serbian protests were a series of peaceful demonstrations that started over the demolition in Savamala and accusations of electoral fraud in 2016 elections. Cause of the protest Savamala demolition On election night of between 24 and 25 April 2016 around 30 people wearing balaclavas came with bulldozers and demolished private objects in Savamala, urban neighborhood in Belgrade. Police did not respond to multiple calls of people whose objects were demolished during the night, police didn't address this issue until 30 April when minister of interior Nebojša Stefanović announced that the demolition will be investigated. Buildings that were demolished were in zone of controversial Belgrade waterfront building project. This lead public to assume that demolition was carried out by the government and sparked anti-government protests. Boško Obradović
Boško Obradović ( sr-Cyrl, Бошко Обрадовић; ; born 23 August 1976) is a Serbian politician. He is the co-founder and former president of the right-wing political party Dveri. He was the party's nominee for the 2017 and 2022 presidential elections. Early life Obradović was born on 23 August 1976 in Vranići, Čačak, SFR Yugoslavia. He studied philology in the University of Belgrade, where he graduated in 2002 after writing his thesis titled ''" Miloš Crnjanski and the New Nationalism"''. Zlatibor Lončar ( sr-cyr, Златибор Лончар; born 3 August 1971) is a Serbian doctor and politician serving as minister of health since 2024, previously serving that role from 2014 to 2022. Education and career Lončar finished primary and secondary school in Belgrade, and later enrolled at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Belgrade, which he finished in 1997. Infarction
Infarction is tissue death (necrosis) due to Ischemia, inadequate blood supply to the affected area. It may be caused by Thrombosis, artery blockages, rupture, mechanical compression, or vasoconstriction. The Serbian Progressive Party (, SNS) is a major populist, catch-all party, catch-all List of political parties in Serbia, political party in Serbia. Nebojša Stefanović ( sr-Cyrl, Небојша Стефановић, ; born 20 November 1976) is a Serbian politician who served as deputy prime minister of Serbia from 2016 to 2022 and as minister of defence from 2020 to 2022. Savamala
Savamala ( sr-Cyrl, Савамала) is an urban neighborhood of Belgrade, the capital of Serbia. It is located in Belgrade's municipalities of Savski Venac and Stari Grad. Location Savamala is located south of the Kalemegdan fortress and the neighborhood of Kosančićev Venac, and stretches along the right bank of the Sava river. Its northern section belongs to the municipality of Stari Grad, while central and southern sections belong to the municipality of Savski Venac. The central street in the neighborhood is ''Karađorđeva''. 2016 Serbian Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Serbia on 24 April 2016. Initially, the election were originally due to be held by March 2018, but on 17 January 2016 Prime Minister of Serbia, Prime Minister Aleksandar Vučić called for a snap election claiming Serbia "needs four more years of stability so that it is ready to Accession of Serbia to the European Union, join the European Union". The elections were held simultaneously with 2016 Vojvodina provincial election, provincial elections in Vojvodina and nationwide local elections. Voter turnout was 56%. Vučić's Serbian Progressive Party-led coalition retained its majority, winning 131 of the 250 seats.
