2015–16 Washington Capitals Season
The 2015–16 NHL season, 2015–16 Washington Capitals season (sports), season was the List of Washington Capitals seasons, 42nd season for the National Hockey League franchise that was established on June 11, 1974. The season began its regular games on October 10, 2015, against the New Jersey Devils. This was the first of five consecutive Metropolitan Division titles for the Capitals. The 2015-2016 Capitals team was the second one in franchise history to win the Presidents' Trophy, after the 2009-10 Washington Capitals season, 2009-2010 Capitals team. The 2015-2016 Capitals defeated the Philadelphia Flyers in the first round of NHL playoffs. However, the Capitals were ousted in the second round of NHL playoffs, two games to four, against the eventual Stanley Cup champions Pittsburgh Penguins. Metropolitan Division
The National Hockey League's Metropolitan Division (often referred to simply as the "Metro Division") was formed in 2013 as one of the two divisions in the Eastern Conference (NHL), Eastern Conference as part of a league realignment. It is also a successor of the original Atlantic Division (NHL, 1993–2013), Atlantic Division and one of the two successors to the Southeast Division (NHL), Southeast Division. Six of its teams were previously together in the Patrick Division from 1981 to 1993 (one joined in 1982). It is the only NHL division without a Canadian team, with five of the division's clubs located in either the New York metropolitan area, New York City area or in Pennsylvania and the other three in North Carolina, Ohio, and Washington, D.C. 2015–16 Vancouver Canucks Season
The 2015–16 Vancouver Canucks season was the 46th season for the National Hockey League franchise that was established on May 22, 1970. The season began its regular games on October 7, 2015, against the Calgary Flames with a 5−1 win. On March 25, 2016, the Canucks lost 4−0 to the St. Louis Blues and were eliminated from playoff contention. The Canucks missed the playoffs for the second time in three years. 2015–16 Calgary Flames Season
The 2015–16 Calgary Flames season was the 36th season in Calgary and 44th in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Flames franchise. Coming off an unexpected run to the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs in 2014–15, and having acquired defenceman Dougie Hamilton and forward Michael Frolik in the off-season, the Flames were expected to again compete for a playoff spot in 2015–16. Instead, the team struggled. Calgary missed the playoffs and spent much of the season languishing near the bottom of the NHL standings. The 2015–16 Chicago Blackhawks season was the 90th season for the National Hockey League franchise that was established on September 25, 1926. They entered the season as defending Stanley Cup champions having won the Stanley Cup the previous season, their third championship in six years. The Blackhawks finished the season with 103 points to finish in third place in the Central Division, only six points behind the Western Conference-leading Dallas Stars. Justin Peters
Justin Peters (born August 30, 1986) is a Canadians, Canadian ice hockey coach and former professional ice hockey goaltender. He was selected in the second round, 38th overall, by the Carolina Hurricanes in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. He is currently the goaltending coach for the Ottawa Senators of the National Hockey League. Peters played 83 career games for the Hurricanes, Washington Capitals and Arizona Coyotes. Playing career After playing Junior A hockey with the Vaughan Vipers of the Ontario Provincial Junior A Hockey League (OPJHL), Peters began a four-season Ontario Hockey League (OHL) career with the Toronto St. Michael's Majors and Plymouth Whalers. Peters scored an empty-net goal in Game 7 of the first-round of the 2004 OHL playoffs against the Sudbury Wolves while playing for the Majors.
