The 2013–14 Latvian Basketball League is the 23rd season. It was sponsored by Aldaris and thus officially known as the Aldaris Latvijas Basketbola līga. The season began on 1 October 2013 and ended on 19 May 2014. Latvijas Basketbola Līga
The Latvian Basketball League (LBL; ) also known as the '' Pafbet'' LBL for sponsorship reasons, is the top-level national basketball championship in Latvia composed of 6 teams. Since 2018/19, only the playoff matches are played, as the top Latvian clubs play the regular season in the Latvian–Estonian Basketball League. The LBL is governed by the Latvian Basketball Association, the national governing body of basketball in Latvia. Its 6 teams are located in 5 cities; two in Riga, and one in Ventspils, Liepāja, Valmiera, and Ogre. The LBL season usually ran from September to April, with the playoffs in April–May. The league was founded in 1992, and its first season was played in the same year. 2013–14 Baltic Basketball League
The 2013–14 Baltic Basketball League was the 10th anniversary season of the Baltic Basketball League. This time the format featured 21 teams – 6 from Lithuania, 6 from Estonia, 5 from Latvia, 2 from Kazakhstan and 1 from Sweden and Finland. For the regular season the teams were divided into three groups of seven teams and competed in a round-robin competition system, with each team facing their opponent twice. Top five teams of each group and the best sixth placed team qualified for the eight-finals. All play-off games were played in home-and-away series. The Finals were a Lithuanian clash as BC Šiauliai, Šiauliai took the 2014 title by beating BC Prienai, TonyBet 140–123 on aggregate score. Estonian team Tartu Ülikool Korvpallimeeskond, Tartu Ülikool/Rock won their second Baltic League bronze by beating Tampereen Pyrintö (basketball), Tampereen Pyrintö of Finland with aggregate score of 149–127. 2013–14 VTB United League
The 2013–14 VTB United League was the 5th complete season of the VTB United League. The tournament featured 20 teams, from 10 countries during the season, 2 more teams than the previous year. It was the first season the VTB United League that functioned as the new domestic first tier level for Russian basketball clubs. Ronalds Zaķis
Ronalds Zaķis (born 8 July 1987) is a Latvian professional basketball player who plays for Ventspils of the Latvian–Estonian Basketball League. Career Ronalds Zaķis started his career playing for BK Ventspils. In early 2008, he was loaned to VEF Rīga and after the season he declared for the 2008 NBA draft, however, he pulled out and ultimately was never drafted. For 2008-09 Zaķis returned to Ventspils, winning his first Latvian League championship. On 22 July 2014 Zaķis signed a contract with VEF Rīga. With VEF he won his third Latvian championship. On 12 August 2015 Zaķis moved to Slovenian team Union Olimpija for the 2015–16 season. In August 2016, Zaķis returned to Ventspils. Aigars Šķēle (born December 4, 1992) is a Latvian professional basketball player for Stal Ostrów Wielkopolski of the Polish Basketball League (PLK). 6 stycznia 2025 Aigars ponownie został zawodnikiem Tasomix Rosiek Stal Ostrów Wielkopolski. Playing career Šķēle spent couple of seasons in Spain, playing for Baloncesto Fuenlabrada youth teams, before returning to his home country in 2012.
