2005–06 Maltese First Division
The 2005–06 Maltese First Division (known as 2005–06 BOV First Division for sponsorship reasons) started on 10 September 2005 and finished on 14 May 2006. Lija Athletic and St. Patrick were the teams which were relegated from the 2004–05 Maltese Premier League. Tarxien Rainbows and St.Andrews were the promoted teams. St. Georges were the champions and Marsa were the runners-up. Both were promoted to the Premier League. Lija Athletic and St. Andrews were relegated. This was two straight relegations for Lija while St. Andrews were sent back down having just been promoted. Maltese First Division
The Maltese Challenge League (referred to as the BOV Challenge League for sponsorship reasons) is the second-highest division in Maltese football, behind the Maltese Premier League. The First Division was the precursor of the present Premier League until the latter was revamped for the 1980–81 season with the Maltese Challenge League instituted for the 2020–21 season following the premature end of the previous season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Format Since the 2022–23 season, the league is made up of eighteen teams. Over the course of the season, each team plays twice against the others in the league, resulting in each team completing thirty-four games in total. Senglea Athletic F
Senglea ( ), also known by its title Città Invicta (or Civitas Invicta), is a fortified city in the Port Region of Malta. It is one of the Three Cities in the Grand Harbour area, the other two being Cospicua and Vittoriosa, and has a population of approximately 2,720 people. The city's title Città Invicta (lit. invincible city) was given because it managed to resist the Ottoman invasion at the Great Siege of Malta in 1565. The name Senglea comes from the Grand Master who built it Claude de la Sengle and gave the city a part of his name. While Senglea is the 52nd most populated locality on the island, due to its incredibly small land area, it is the 2nd most densely populated locality after Sliema. 2006–07 Maltese Second Division
The Maltese Second Division 2006-07 (known as BOV Second Division 2006-07 due to sponsorship reasons) started on 23 September 2006 and ended on 6 May 2007. Lija Athletic and St.Andrews were the relegated teams. The promoted teams were Birzebbuga St.Peters, Santa Venera Lightning and Rabat Ajax. Dingli Swallows finished the league as champions. Therefore, they were promoted to 2007–08 Maltese First Division. They were joined with Mellieha who finished as runner-up. Gudja United and Gozo FC were relegated to 2007–08 Maltese Third Division. Zebbug Rangers were also relegated as they lost the relegation-playoffs. Gozo ( ), known in antiquity as Gaulos, is an island in the Maltese archipelago in the Mediterranean Sea. The island is part of the Republic of Malta. Balzan F
Balzan () is a municipality in the Northern Region of Malta, and together with Attard and Lija, forms part of the "Three Villages" (). The village originally consisted of a group of small dwellings and farms but eventually grew, becoming a parish in the 17th century. As of 2022, the town registered a population of 4,821 inhabitants. Etymology In Malta, many village names are identical to certain family names, as in Attard and Lija. It is believed by some, therefore, that the village inherited its name from a family whose family name was ''Balzan''. Balsan (Balzan) literally means ''tax collector'' or ''contributions collector''. The tax collector must have been from the same parish, at the time forming part of Birkirkara. Mosta () is a small but densely populated city in the Northern Region of Malta. The most prominent building in Mosta is the Rotunda, a large basilica built by its parishioners' volunteer labour. It features the world's 3rd largest unsupported dome, and displays a replica of a German bombshell that famously crashed through the dome but did not detonate upon impact. Hamrun ( ) is a town in the Southern Region of Malta, with a population of 9,244 as of March 2014. The people The townspeople are traditionally known as ''Tas-Sikkina'' (literally meaning 'of the knife' or 'those who carry a knife') or as ''Ta' Werwer'' (which literally means 'those who scare' or more colloquially, 'the scary ones'). This appellation could stem from the fact that a considerable number of used to work as stevedores on the docks and thus carried a knife at all times.
