Tom Gorman (tennis), Tom Gorman was the defending champion but withdrew due to an ankle injury sustained playing in the 1974 Stadthalle Open, Vienna Open. Arthur Ashe
Arthur Robert Ashe Jr. (July 10, 1943 – February 6, 1993) was an American professional tennis player. He won three Grand Slam (tennis)#Tournaments, Grand Slam titles in singles and two in doubles. Ashe was the first Black player selected to the United States Davis Cup team, and the only Black man ever to win the singles titles at Wimbledon Championships, Wimbledon, the US Open (tennis), US Open, and the Australian Open. He retired in 1980. Ashe was ranked World number 1 ranked male tennis players, world No. 1 by Rex Bellamy, Bud Collins, Judith Elian, Lance Tingay, ''World Tennis'' and ''Tennis Magazine'' (U.S.) in 1975. That year, Ashe was awarded the 'Martini and Rossi' Award, voted for by a panel of journalists, and the ATP Player of the Year award. Paul Gerken
Paul Gerken (born March 15, 1950) is a former professional tennis player from the United States. Early life and career Gerken was born in New York but his family moved to Norwalk, Connecticut a year after his birth. When he was only 14 he was the top ranked junior in New England for the 16-year-old age division. In 1968 he was called up to the American junior Davis Cup team. He was the third ranked junior in the country at the time. He was runner-up to Dick Stockton at the Orange Bowl 18s in 1968. A student at Norwalk High School, he won the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference singles championship in 1967 and 1968. College years Gerken attended Stanford University on a tennis scholarship and while there was an All-American college player. Raymond J. "Ray" Moore (born 24 August 1946) is a former professional tennis player from South Africa. In June 1966 he won the East Gloucestershire Championships at Cheltenham on grass, defeating Tom Okker and Dick Crealy in the final two rounds. In May 1969, Moore won the West Berlin Open Championships, defeating Arthur Ashe and Cliff Drysdale in close five-set matches. Birger Andersson (tennis)
Nils Birger Lennart Andersson (born 26 March 1951) is a former professional tennis player from Sweden. Biography Andersson is best remembered for his performances for Sweden when they won the 1975 Davis Cup, the country's first title. Still a rookie, he had played professionally for only a few months before he got the Davis Cup call up. Up until the final he occupied the No. 2 singles position, behind Björn Borg. Although he didn't play in the final, he was responsible for Sweden making it that far, as he twice won the fifth and deciding match of a knockout tie. For his feats during the tournament he was given the nickname "Bragd-Birger". In the Europe Zone quarter-final against West Germany, he defeated Karl Meiler in straight sets, to win the tie for Sweden. Barry Phillips-Moore
Barry Phillips-Moore (9 June 1938 – 29 June 2023) was an Australian tennis player of the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s. In singles, Phillips-Moore twice reached the semifinals of the Australian Championships, in 1961 and 1968. Erik van Dillen (born February 21, 1951) is an American retired tennis player who played over 25 Grand Slam championships at Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon and US Open. He was active from 1964 to 1982 and won 9 careers singles titles. Tennis career Born in San Mateo, California, van Dillen first played tennis aged six years old. During his junior career, he won both the singles and doubles competitions at the "USTA Boys 16 & 18 National Championships" in Kalamazoo, Michigan, as well as winning other national titles in the 12- and 14-year-old divisions. Jeff Borowiak (born September 25, 1949) is a former professional tennis player from the United States, who won five singles and three doubles titles during his professional career, reaching a career-high Association of Tennis Professionals, ATP singles ranking of World No. 20 in August 1977. Personal Borowiak is also an accomplished musician, mastering the flute and the piano. He was also indirectly involved in the formation of the group Metallica when he invested in his friend and Danish fellow player Torben Ulrich's son band Lars Rocket, which later became Metallica. John Lloyd (tennis)
John Lloyd (born 27 August 1954) is a British former professional tennis player. Lloyd reached an Association of Tennis Professionals, ATP world ranking of 23 in July 1978, and was ranked as UK number 1 in 1984 and 1985. He now works as a tennis commentator. During his career, he reached one Grand Slam (tennis), Grand Slam singles final – losing to Vitas Gerulaitis in the 1977 Australian Open.
