The Istanbul Football League () was founded as a regional association football, football league under the name Constantinople Football Association League by James La Fontaine and Henry Pears in Istanbul, the capital of the former Ottoman Empire, in 1904. The Istanbul League was the first football organization ever in the Ottoman Empire and later Turkey. In the inaugural 1904–05 season the matches between the four teams, Moda F.C., Moda FC, HMS Imogene F.C., HMS Imogene, Elpis F.C., Elpis FC, and Cadi-Keuy F.C., Cadi-Keuy FC were played on Sundays, leading to the name of the league, Istanbul Sunday League. Henry Pears, an Englishman and one of the three founders, promised to ultimately award the shield to the club with the most championships won during the initial 10 years. Reha Eken
Mehmet Reha Eken (28 August 1925 – 19 August 2013) was a Turkish professional footballer who played as a forward. He was strongly associated with Galatasaray Istanbul because of his long career at the club. On fan club pages he is regarded as one of the greatest players in the club's history. In his four stakes for the Turkey national team, he scored six goals and has with 1.5 the best goal / game ratio of any Turkey national team player. He was also part of Turkey's squad for the football tournament at the 1948 Summer Olympics, but he did not play in any matches. Kemal Sunal (11 November 1944 – 3 July 2000) was a Turkish actor and comedian. With ''Hababam Sınıfı'', '' Kapıcılar Kralı'' and '' Davaro'', Sunal gained large popularity amongst Turkish cinema goers and was famed for his character "Şaban", a role he frequently played. Bülent Esel (23 July 1927 – 17 August 2004) was a Turkey international football forward who played for clubs in Turkey and Italy. Career Born in İzmir, Esel began playing youth football for Kırıkkalespor. He played senior football for Kırıkkalespor and Ankaragücü before moving to Italy in 1951, where he would make 78 appearances and scored 25 goals during three seasons in Serie A for SPAL 1907. "Baba" Gündüz Kılıç (29 October 1918 – 17 May 1980) was a Turkish football player and coach. He was Ali Kılıç's son and Altemur Kılıç's brother.
