Židenice
Židenice (, Hantec slang, Hantec: ''Šimice'') is a municipal part and cadastral territory in Brno, Czech Republic, almost entirely located on the left bank of the river Svitava (river), Svitava. It has an area of 6.47 km2. Originally an independent municipality, it was annexed to Brno in 1919, and since November 24, 1990, it makes up most of the city district of Brno-Židenice, as well as the entirety of Brno-Vinohrady on the eastern side. About 33,000 people live here, making Židenice the most populated cadastral territory in Brno. Etymology The name of the village (Židenici in its oldest form) was derived from the personal name Židen (less likely Židna), which was a domestic form of some personal name beginning with Ž(i)d-, for example Židebor, Židemir, Ždimir (in the base of which is ''ž(i )dati'' - "expect"). Brno-Židenice
Brno-Židenice is a city district in Brno, Czech Republic, located east of the city's Brno-město (cadastral territory), historical center. It consists of the eastern part of the municipal part and cadastral territory of Zábrdovice and most of Židenice. Its total area is 5.05 km2. The city district was established on November 24, 1990, its office is located in Židenice. Over 22,000 people live here. For the purposes of the senate elections, Brno-Židenice is included in electoral district number 58 of Brno-City District. Brno-Líšeň
Brno-Líšeň is a city district of Brno, Czech Republic, in the northeastern part of the city. It consists of the cadastral territory of Líšeň (), originally a town that was annexed to Brno in 1944. The cadastral territory has an area of 15.71 km2. The city district was established on November 24, 1990. Over 26,000 people live here. The district can be divided into "Old Líšeň" (original development of a village or small-town character) and "New Líšeň" (a panel housing estate built in the 1980s on the slopes west of the older development). The heart of the old Líšeň is the Charles IV square, locally called "Městečko" (lit: 'little town'). Maloměřice
Maloměřice () is a municipal part and cadastral territory on the northeastern edge of the city of Brno, Czech Republic. About 3,300 people live here. Originally an independent municipality, it was annexed to Brno in 1919, since 24 November 1990 it is part of the city district of Brno-Maloměřice and Obřany. The small southern part of Maloměřice belongs to Brno-Vinohrady. Geography Maloměřice borders the cadastral territories of Obřany to the north, Husovice to the west, Zábrdovice to the south, Židenice to the south and southeast, and the municipality of Kanice to the northeast. Zábrdovice
Zábrdovice () is a cadastral territory northeast of the center of the city of Brno, Czech Republic. It has an area of 1.64 km². Originally an independent village, it was annexed to Brno in 1850. Since November 24, 1990, the territory of Zábrdovice has been divided between the city districts of Brno-střed and Brno-Židenice, and since May 1, 1998, also between Brno-sever. Over 12,000 people live here. Etymology The name of its inhabitants ''zabrdovici'' was transferred to the settlement - "people (living) behind the hill, i.e. behind the hill". Brno-Vinohrady ( Hantec: Vincky) is a city district on the eastern side of Brno in the Czech Republic. The city district was established on 24 November 1990. The population is 12,172 as of 2021. Trnitá is a cadastral territory in Brno, Czech Republic, southeast from the city center. It has an area of 1.90 km².
