According to the 2016 phylogenetic analysis, Mesodiniea is consistently found as the sister group to all other ciliates. Additionally, two big sub-groups are distinguished inside subphylum Intramacronucleata: SAL ( Spirotrichea+ Armophorea+ Litostomatea) and CONthreeP or Ventrata ( Colpodea+
