On 24 April 2020, the ECB confirmed that no professional cricket would be played in England before 1 July 2020, with the tour being postponed. After the tour was postponed, both cricket boards had been involved in "positive" talks about rescheduling the series. This included the possibility of the West Indies team going into isolation for 14 days, and the first Test match starting on 8 July 2020.
