Svikiro
Svikiro is a spirit medium of the Shona people of Zimbabwe. A svikiro is an ancestral spirit primarily known to possess a living human and will give advice based on that communication. The word comes from the verb ''kusvika'' meaning "to arrive at or reach a place". It also stems from ''kusvikirwa'' meaning "to arrive upon", as it is believed that the ancestral spirits arrive in the bodies of the mediums. Other types of mediums (svikiro) include mhondoro which are possessed by the ancestor spirits of the same name. Shona People
The Shona people () are part of the Bantu ethnic group native to Southern Africa, primarily living in Zimbabwe where they form the majority of the population, as well as Mozambique, South Africa, and a worldwide diaspora including global celebrities such as Thandiwe Newton. There are five major Shona language/dialect clusters : Karanga, Zezuru, Korekore, Manyika and Ndau. Shona Language
Shona (; sn, chiShona) is a Bantu language of the Shona people of Zimbabwe. It was codified by the colonial government in the 1950s. According to ''Ethnologue'', Shona, comprising the Zezuru, Korekore and Karanga dialects, is spoken by about 7.5 million people. The Manyika dialect of Shona is listed separately by ''Ethnologue'', and is spoken by 1,025,000 people.
