Iron Ore
Iron ores are rocks and minerals from which metallic iron can be economically extracted. The ores are usually rich in iron oxides and vary in color from dark grey, bright yellow, or deep purple to rusty red. The iron is usually found in the form of magnetite (, 72.4% Fe), hematite (, 69.9% Fe), goethite (, 62.9% Fe), limonite (, 55% Fe) or siderite (, 48.2% Fe). Ores containing very high quantities of hematite or magnetite (greater than about 60% iron) are known as "natural ore" or "direct shipping ore", meaning they can be fed directly into iron-making blast furnaces. Iron ore is the raw material used to make pig iron, which is one of the main raw materials to make steel—98% of the mined iron ore is used to make steel. Mayoko
Mayoko District is a district in the Niari Department of Republic of the Congo. The capital lies at Mayoko. It has a northern border with Gabon. As of 2007, the population is 5,147. Transport Mayoko is served by a branch railway of the Congo–Ocean Railway that terminates in Mbinda. It lies near the border with Gabon. Mining Mayoko is near deposits of iron ore, which are very close to an existing railway line leading to a port. Bakala is a sub-prefecture and town in the Ouaka Prefecture of the southern-central Central African Republic. It is located near the geographic center of the country. History On 30 November 2016 Bakala was captured by FPRC armed group after battle with UPC group. It was recaptured by UPC on 11 December and again captured by FPRC on 11 January 2017. Bambari
Bambari is a town in the Central African Republic, lying on the Ouaka River. It has a population of 41,356 (2003 census) and is the capital of Ouaka prefecture. Bambari is an important market town and is home to Bambari Airport, and the Roman Catholic Diocese of Bambari. Mining Large deposits of iron ore have been discovered in the vicinity of Bambari, though the considerable distance to the sea—1500 km—probably makes exploitatation of these reserves doubtful in the near future. Ngovayang
Ngovayang is an iron ore mining site in the department of Océan, South Region, Cameroon. It is controlled by the Indian company Jindal Steel and Power. History In November 2013, the Australian company Legend Mining sold the Ngovayang exploitation to the Indian company Jindal Steel and Power. The deal was sealed in August 2014. Transport The Ngovayang mining lease straddles the main metre gauge Cameroon Railways. Ports The port of Douala on the existing metre gauge line has draft of only 8.5m, whereas the proposed more southerly port of Kribi has a draft of 20m, assuming that it were available on an open access basis.
