Dice Pool
In some role-playing game (RPG) systems, the dice pool is the number of dice that a player is allowed to roll when attempting to perform a certain action. Mechanics In many RPG systems, non-trivial actions often require dice rolls. Some RPGs roll a fixed number of dice, add a number to the die roll based on the character's Attribute (role-playing games), attributes and Skill (role-playing games), skills, and compare the resulting number with a difficulty rating. In other systems, the character's attributes and skills determine the number of dice to be rolled. Dice pool systems generally use a single size of die, the most common being Six-sided dice, six- or Ten-sided die, ten-sided dice (d6s or d10s), though in some games a character's Attributes or Skills may determine the size of the dice in the pool, as well as their number (such as ''Deadlands''). While such games may require different sized dice for different rolls, the dice in a given pool are usually all the same size. ...

A role-playing game (sometimes spelled roleplaying game, RPG) is a game in which players assume the roles of player character, characters in a fictional Setting (narrative), setting. Players take responsibility for acting out these roles within a narrative, either through literal acting or through a process of structured decision-making regarding character development. Actions taken within many games succeed or fail according to a formal role-playing game system, system of rules and guidelines. There are several forms of role-playing games. ''Marvel Heroic Roleplaying'' (abbreviated as ''MHR'' or ''MHRP'') is the fourth role-playing game set in the Marvel Universe published by Margaret Weis Productions under license from Marvel Comics (after '' Marvel Super Heroes RPG'', ''Marvel Super Heroes Adventure Game'', and the ''Marvel Universe Roleplaying Game''). Thomas A. Dowd is a game designer who has worked primarily on role-playing games. Career Thomas Dowd was one of the writers who supported Fantasy Games Unlimited's role-playing game, ''Villains and Vigilantes''. The ''Shadowrun'' 2nd Edition rules from FASA, by Dowd with Paul Hume and Bob Charrette, won the Origins Award for Best Roleplaying Rules of 1992. Paul Hume (game Designer)
Paul Hume has been designing role-playing games since the mid 1970s. He co-wrote, with Bob Charrette, ''Bushido'', ''Aftermath!'', and '' Daredevils'' for Fantasy Games Unlimited. He is also a co-author of ''Shadowrun'', among other games. Career Paul Hume and George Nyhen designed the role-playing game ''Space Quest'', which was published in 1977 by Tyr Gamemakers. Hume and Bob Charrette designed the game ''Bushido'', which was first published in limited distribution by Hume through his small press company Tyr Games. Bob Charrette
Robert N. Charrette (born 1953) is an American graphic artist, game designer, sculptor and author. Charrette has authored more than a dozen novels. His gaming materials have received many Origins Awards. Charrette was inducted in the Origins Hall of Fame in 2003. His work is known for a clean, realistic style that invokes themes from Feudal Japan and Chanbara films and in particular, historical and fantastic representations of Samurai culture. His early work in game design and miniature sculpting set the tone for depictions of Japanese mythology in American fantasy and science fiction. Greg Costikyan (born July 22, 1959, in New York City), sometimes known under the pseudonym "Designer X", is an American game designer and science fiction writer. Carl Sanford Joslyn "Sandy" Petersen (born September 16, 1955) is an American game designer. Lynn Willis (died January 18, 2013) was a wargame and role-playing game designer, best known for his work with Metagaming Concepts, Game Designers' Workshop (GDW), and Chaosium. Biography Willis began by designing science fiction wargames for Metagaming Concepts, starting with ''Godsfire'' in 1976. He designed the MicroGames ''Olympica'' (1978) and ''Holy War'' (1979).
