Lynn Willis
Lynn Willis (died January 18, 2013) was a wargame and role-playing game designer, best known for his work with Metagaming Concepts, Game Designers' Workshop (GDW), and Chaosium. Biography Willis began by designing science fiction wargames for Metagaming Concepts, starting with ''Godsfire'' in 1976. He designed the MicroGames ''Olympica'' (1978) and ''Holy War'' (1979). Chaosium published '' Lords of the Middle Sea'' (1978), and Willis joined Chaosium in 1978. GDW published '' Bloodtree Rebellion'' (1979). Willis's relationship with Chaosium proved the most enduring; he would turn to role-playing games. He helped founder Greg Stafford trim and refine the ''RuneQuest'' rules into ''Basic Role-Playing'', the rules that would serve as the base for many of Chaosium's RPG lines. ''Masks of Nyarlathotep'', subtitled ''Perilous Adventures to Thwart the Dark God'', is an adventure campaign first published by Chaosium in 1984 for the second edition of the horror role-playing game '' Call of Cthulhu''. A number of revised editions have subsequently been published. ''Masks of Nyarlathotep'' is a series of several sequential adventures set in the 1920s that take the player characters from New York, to London, Cairo, Nairobi, and Shanghai (with Australia and then Peru added in subsequent editions) as they deal with the threat of the god Nyarlathotep. Screenwriter Larry DiTillio wrote the adventure with game designer Lynn Willis during a writer's strike. Parkinson's Disease
Parkinson's disease (PD), or simply Parkinson's, is a long-term degenerative disorder of the central nervous system that mainly affects the motor system. The symptoms usually emerge slowly, and as the disease worsens, non-motor symptoms become more common. The most obvious early symptoms are tremor, rigidity, slowness of movement, and difficulty with walking. Cognitive and behavioral problems may also occur with depression, anxiety, and apathy occurring in many people with PD. Parkinson's disease dementia becomes common in the advanced stages of the disease. Those with Parkinson's can also have problems with their sleep and sensory systems. The motor symptoms of the disease result from the death of cells in the substantia nigra, a region of the midbrain, leading to a dopamine deficit. Charlie Krank
Charlie Krank is a game designer who has worked primarily on role-playing games. Early life Charlie Krank was born in 1957 in San Francisco. Career Charlie Krank, an employee of the San Francisco game store Gambit, started volunteering to help Chaosium playtest in 1978 and became a paid employee two years later. Krank designed the collectible card game ''Mythos'', which won the 1996 ''Best Card Game'' award at Origins. When Greg Stafford founded Issaries, Inc. and left Chaosium after 25 years, long-time employee and part owner Krank stepped up as the new president of Chaosium. Chaosium almost went out of business in 2003, and for a time afterward it was run out of president Krank's house with no paid staff. On September 11, 2008, Krank informed the public that his friend and fellow long-time Chaosium employee Lynn Willis had been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. ''Stormbringer'' is a fantasy tabletop role-playing game published under license by Chaosium. Based on the Elric of Melniboné books by Michael Moorcock, the game takes its name from Elric's sword, Stormbringer (though one edition was published as ''Elric!''). The rules are based on Chaosium's percentile-dice-based ''Basic Role-Playing'' system. HighBeam Research was a paid search engine and full text online archive owned by Gale, a subsidiary of Cengage, for thousands of newspapers, magazines, academic journals, newswires, trade magazines, and encyclopedias in English. It was headquartered in Chicago, Illinois. In late 2018, the archive was shut down. Carl Sanford Joslyn "Sandy" Petersen (born September 16, 1955) is an American game designer. He worked at Chaosium, contributing to the development of ''RuneQuest'' and later creating the acclaimed and influential horror role-playing game ''Call of Cthulhu''. He would later join id Software where he would work on the development of the ''Doom'' franchise and ''Quake''. Biography Petersen was born in St. Louis, Missouri and developed the love for dinosaurs at age 3. The Origins Awards are American awards for outstanding work in the game industry. They are presented by the Academy of Adventure Gaming Arts and Design at the Origins Game Fair on an annual basis for the previous year, so (for example) the 1979 awards were given at the 1980 Origins. The Origins Award is commonly referred to as a Calliope, as the statuette is in the likeness of the muse of the same name. Academy members frequently shorten this name to "Callie". ''Ghostbusters'' is a comedy role-playing game designed by Sandy Petersen, Lynn Willis and Greg Stafford and published by West End Games in 1986. It is based on the 1984 film ''Ghostbusters''. Setting The ''Ghostbusters'' role-playing game is set in the same fictional universe as the ''Ghostbusters'' films, but in a period sometime after the first film. In the game, the original Ghostbusters have created a corporation known as Ghostbusters International, which sells Ghostbusters franchising, franchises to individuals around the world.
