Jane Bunford
Jane Bunford (26 July 1895 – 1 April 1922) was one of the tallest women ever measuring at the time of her death (adjusted for spinal curvature). She was the tallest woman in the world during her lifetime. Early life Bunford's parents were John Bunford (14 March 1856 – 10 December 1916) and Jane Bunford (Nee Andrews) (April 1857 – 1934) of Bartley Green, Birmingham, UK. Her father was a metal caster. Accident According to the Guinness Book of Records at the age of 11, Bunford had a head injury. It is believed that the injury permanently damaged her pituitary gland, releasing an excess of growth hormone which sent her growth out of control. He was generally recognized as the tallest living man in the world from at least 1969 until his death in 1981. At one time, Koehler stood tall, a result of the medical condition gigantism. Suleiman Ali Nashnush (1943 – February 25, 1991) was a Libyan basketball player and actor and one of the 20 individuals in medical history to reach or surpass in height. He was the tallest basketball player ever at although he was only when he played professional basketball. Sandra Elaine Allen (June 18, 1955 – August 13, 2008) was an American woman recognized by the Guinness World Records as the tallest woman in the world. She was tall. Allen wrote a book, ''Cast a Giant Shadow''. Although over the years other women have taken the title of the tallest woman, Allen held it for the last sixteen years of her life. Her height was due to a tumor in her pituitary gland that caused it to release growth hormone uncontrollably, between 200 and 1,000 times more than usual. She grew up in Shelbyville, Indiana, and was raised by her grandmother, who worked as a cleaning woman. At the age of 22, in 1977, she underwent surgery for the condition. Lacking this procedure, Allen would have continued to grow and suffer further medical problems associated with gigantism.
