Zapatoca
Zapatoca () is a town and municipality in the Santander Department in northeastern Colombia. It is at a high altitude and is a common stop between Bucaramanga and San Gil. It was built in the early 17th century by the Spain, Spanish conquistadores. José De Jesús Pimiento Rodríguez
José de Jesús Horacio Pimiento Rodríguez (; 18 February 1919 – 3 September 2019) was a Colombian prelate of the Catholic Church who served as Bishop of Montería from 1959 to 1964, Bishop of Garzón-Neiva from 1964 to 1975, and finally Archbishop of Manizales from 1975 to 1996. He was created a cardinal by Pope Francis in 2015. Life and career Pimiento Rodríguez was born in Zapatoca to Agustín Pimiento Lizarazo and Salomé Rodríguez Castillo. He was baptized on 4 March 1919. He was ordained a priest on 14 December 1941, fulfilling his dream despite his family's economic hardship. Pimiento served as coadjutor vicar in parishes in Mogotes, as well as in the cathedrals of San Gil and Vélez. He was appointed an auxiliary bishop of the Diocese of Pasto, as well as titular bishop of Apollonis, by Pope Pius XII on 14 June 1955, and consecrated on 28 August 1955. Miguel Acuña
Fray Miguel Acuña (1788-1847) was a Franciscan priest and medical practitioner in New Granada (present-day Colombia). He was born in Zapatoca in the province of Socorro, and was received into the Franciscan order at the age of 21. He was famous in Bogota for his knowledge of medicine and for his exemplary life. He spent the majority of his religious life in the convent of San Francisco de Bogotá, where he was visited by a regular stream of people from all walks of life, eager to seek relief from their ailments through his prescriptions. He died in Bogota in 1847. Municipalities Of Colombia
The Municipalities of Colombia are decentralized subdivisions of the Republic of Colombia. Municipalities make up most of the departments of Colombia with 1,122 municipalities (''municipios''). Each one of them is led by a mayor (''alcalde'') elected by popular vote and represents the maximum executive government official at a municipality level under the mandate of the governor of their department which is a representative of all municipalities in the department; municipalities are grouped to form departments. Carlos Toledo Plata
Carlos Francisco Toledo Plata (December 13, 1932 – August 10, 1984) was a Colombian doctor, politician, co-founder and early leader of the guerrilla movement known as M-19, who also laid the basis for the movement's socialist platforms with his Marxist ideologies. He was also a Member of the Colombian Chamber of Representatives for the electoral constituency of Santander and part of the National Popular Alliance party. In 1952 Toledo Plata moved to Argentina to study Traumatology. It was there that he became familiar with Peronism, which influenced his political outlook from then on, and where he trained with the Argentinian leftist group Montoneros. Bucaramanga () is the capital and largest city of the department of Santander, Colombia. San Gil
San Gil is a town municipality in the Department of Santander in northeastern Colombia, located roughly 300 km (192 mi) from Bogotá and 95 km from the department's capital, Bucaramanga. As of 2020, San Gil had a population of roughly 46,000 people within the total municipal area, making it the third largest urban area in the department, after Bucaramanga and Barrancabermeja. Founded in 1689, San Gil is over 300 years old.
