Ziegelbrücke–Linthal Railway
The Ziegelbrücke–Linthal railway (formerly the Weesen–Linthal railway, also called the Glarnerlinie—Glarus line), is a single-track standard-gauge line in Switzerland. It was opened in two stages and by two railway companies. The line from Weesen via to was opened on 15 February 1859 by the United Swiss Railways (''Vereinigte Schweizerbahnen'', VSB). It was opened with the ––Weesen line. The line from Glarus via to was opened on 1 June 1879 by the Swiss Northeastern Railway (''Schweizerische Nordostbahn''). The Lake Zürich left-bank railway, which was built by the Swiss Northeastern Railway, was extended from Ziegelbrücke to Näfels-Mollis station on 20 September 1875. This line took over much of the traffic between Weesen and Näfels-Mollis, making the old line unprofitable. Therefore, the line was closed by the SBB on 1 January 1931 and later dismantled. Linthal, Glarus
Linthal is a village, and former municipality, in the municipality of Glarus Süd and canton of Glarus in Switzerland. The village lies near the head of the valley of the Linth river, and at the foot of the Klausen Pass into the canton of Uri. It is the terminus of the railway line that traverses the length of Glarus. History Linthal is first mentioned in 1289 as ''Lintal''. In 1879, Linthal was connected to the Swiss railway network by the opening of the Swiss Northeastern Railway line from Weesen. The road over the Klausen Pass was built between 1895 and 1900. Construction of the Linth–Limmern hydro-electric power scheme, in the mountains above Linthal, commenced in 1957, and was fully operational by 1968. Greina
The Greina (el. 2355 m.) (Italian: ''Passo della Greina'', Romansh: ''Pass Crap'') is a high mountain pass across the western Lepontine Alps, connecting Sumvitg in the canton of Graubünden in Switzerland and Olivone in the canton of Ticino. The pass lies between the Piz Medel on the north and Pizzo Marumo, Piz Terri on the south. Greina is also a high plateau (''Plaun la Greina'') lying east of the pass, it is an alluvial site of national importance. The high plateau was in high risk of being flooded for a reservoir for many years. Tödi
The Tödi (), is a mountain massif and with the mountain peak Piz Russein the highest mountain in the Glarus Alps and the highest summit in the canton of Glarus, Switzerland. It is located on the border between the cantons of Graubünden, to the south, and Glarus, to the north, close to the point where those two cantons meet the canton of Uri, to the west. The Gotthard railway (german: Gotthardbahn; it, Ferrovia del Gottardo) is the Swiss trans-alpine railway line from northern Switzerland to the canton of Ticino. Glarner Sprinter
The Glarner Sprinter was a named passenger train of the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB). It ran from Zurich into the canton of Glarus, and was operated as a RegioExpress service. The train provided a commuter service for passengers travelling from the towns and villages of Glarus to the greater Zurich region, whilst also providing a tourist connection (for winter sports, hiking, mountain climbing, etc.) in the opposite direction. The S25 is a regional railway line of the S-Bahn Zürich on the Zürcher Verkehrsverbund (ZVV), Zürich transportation network, and is one of the network's lines connecting the cantons of Zürich with Schwyz, Glarus and St. Gallen. The line was introduced in July 2014, and replaces the less frequent Glarner Sprinter train.
