Glarner Sprinter
The Glarner Sprinter was a named passenger train of the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB). It ran from Zurich into the canton of Glarus, and was operated as a RegioExpress service. The train provided a commuter service for passengers travelling from the towns and villages of Glarus to the greater Zurich region, whilst also providing a tourist connection (for winter sports, hiking, mountain climbing, etc.) in the opposite direction. In July 2014 it was replaced by a more frequent service as part of the Zürich S-Bahn, the S25. History Since 1918, there was no longer a direct connection from the Canton of Glarus to Zurich. The "Glarner Dream" of a direct connection to Zürich was realized by the Pendlerverein (commuter association) of the Glarus government and the SBB as a component of the Swiss Bahn 2000 modernization plan and put into service on 12 April 2004. RegioExpress
RegioExpress (RE) is a fast regional train service in Switzerland, run by Swiss Federal Railways (SBB CFF FFS) or other railway companies (such as TILO, BLS, tpf, transN, THURBO or RhB). It is comparable to the Regional-Express in Germany, Austria and Luxembourg. Its speed is considerably faster than regional trains at the same level, as it does not stop at all stations served by the regional trains. Nonetheless, it is slightly slower than InterRegio trains. Swiss Federal Railways describes the trains as ones that serve "rapidly into the regions". Until the 2003 timetable overhaul (December 2002 to December 2003), the RegioExpress was limited in circulation. One of the main lines which ran as a RegioExpress line (abbreviation: RX) was the ''Rheintal Express'', from St. Gallen through Sargans to Chur (the other was the ''CityVogel'' from Zurich to Konstanz). Schwanden railway station (german: Bahnhof Schwanden) is a railway station in the municipality of Glarus Süd in the Swiss canton of Glarus. It is an intermediate stop on the Weesen to Linthal railway line, and serves the village of Schwanden. Between 1905 and 1969, the station was the terminus of the Sernftal tramway, a metre gauge tramway that ran up the valley of the Sernf river to Elm, and was the predecessor of the Sernftalbus service on the same route. Ziegelbrücke railway station (german: Bahnhof Ziegelbrücke) is a junction station in the village of Ziegelbrücke in Switzerland. Whilst the village is shared between the municipality of Glarus Nord, in the canton of Glarus, and the municipality of Schänis, in the canton of St. Gallen, the station is located in the ''Gemarkung'' of Schänis, where it is the larger of two railway stations (the other being Schänis railway station).
