Albanian ( endonym: or ) is an Indo-European language and an independent branch of that family of languages. Dorin Liviu ''Chubby'' Zaharia (; September 25, 1944 – December 3, 1987) was a Romanian musician, composer, poet, essayist, and philosopher. A "completely unclassifiable", "nearly mythical figure", Zaharia was an autodidact in all he undertook (he studied for about two years at the University of Bucharest's Faculty of Letters, and another two at the Faculty of Philosophy, without completing any of them). Nicknamed "Chubby" (sometimes spelled as ''Ciabi'') by his peers in the Popa Nan neighborhood because of his propensity to imitate Chubby Checker, Zaharia was the lead singer of Olympic '64, arguably one of the first Romanian bands interested in mixing Romanian folklore music with the popular music of the 1960s. Zaharia Stancu
Zaharia Stancu (; October 7, 1902 – December 5, 1974) was a Romanian prose writer, novelist, poet, and philosopher. He was also the director of the National Theatre Bucharest, the President of the Writers' Union of Romania, and a titular member of the Romanian Academy. Biography Stancu was born in 1902 in Salcia, a village in Teleorman County, Romania. After leaving school at the age of thirteen he worked at various jobs. He worked as tanner, shopkeeper in a grocer's store and in a tobacco store, and clerk at the prefecture. In 1921, with the help of Gala Galaction, he became a journalist. In 1933 he finished his studies in literature and philosophy at the University of Bucharest. His first volume of poetry, ''Poeme simple'' (''Simple Poems''), appeared in 1927, receiving the Romanian Writers' Prize. Zaharia Carcalechi
Zaharia Carcalechi (1784 or 1787—1856) was an Imperial Austrian-born Wallachian publisher. Born into an Aromanian family in Oradea, his father, a merchant, later moved the family to Brașov. Zaharia, after settling in the Hungarian capital Buda, worked as a typographer and helped popularize books in the Romanian language. Opening a bookstore, he edited books in Romanian with the help of the university press; these were written by authors from Transylvania as well as from the Danubian Principalities. He edited a collection of theological and philosophical teachings as well as travel notes by Dinicu Golescu. In 1821, the oldest Romanian-language literary magazine, ''Biblioteca românească'' ("The Romanian Library"), appeared under his name in Buda. Zaharia Bârsan ( – December 13, 1948) was an Austro-Hungarian-born Romanian playwright, poet and actor. He was born in Sânpetru, Brassó County, in what was then the Transylvania region of Austria-Hungary. His parents were Zaharie Bârsan, a small landowner, and his wife Maria (''née'' Vlădăreanu). After completing a gymnasium in his native city in 1895, Bârsan went to the Romanian Old Kingdom. Maria Ion Zaharia, also known as Măriuca Zaharia (1905 – 6 August 1917), was a Romanian girl who acted as an impromptu artillery observer for the Romanian Army and was killed during the Battle of Mărășești. Biography Born in Pădureni in 1905, Maria lived in August 1917 with her grandfather Ion Zaharia in the village of Haret, close to the front. In the orchard of her grandfather the Romanian Army set up an artillery observation post up a walnut tree that offered a good view of the surrounding landscape. There Maria became acquainted with the Romanian soldiers and was captivated by their work.
