Yyrkoon (band)
Yyrkoon ( ) is a French death metal band. The main lyrical themes revolve around occultism, horror/fantasy, and members' personal philosophies. The name Yyrkoon is derived from the name of Elric of Melniboné's cousin in Michael Moorcock's fantasy series. Biography Demos, ''Oniric Transition'' The band was formed in 1995 by Stéphane Souteyrand (guitar & keyboards), Laurent Harrouart (drums), Paul Banas (vocals & guitar), and Sébastien Caron (bass guitar). One year later, Yyrkoon decided to self-record the first 5-song demo tape, ''Oath, Obscure, Occult…'', which included unique sounds to typical death metal like female vocals, violin, and flute. This tape was well received in the underground. The demo was sent to different French labels and Velvet Music International signed the band. Personal conflicts during the recording of the band's debut album led to a few lineup changes. Banas and Caron left the band, resulting in the recruitment of Jérôme Barouin on guitar ...

Melodic Death Metal
Melodic death metal (also referred to as melodeath) is a subgenre of death metal that employs highly melodic guitar riffs, often borrowing from traditional heavy metal (including New Wave of British Heavy Metal). The genre features the heaviness of death metal but with highly melodic or harmonized guitar riffs and solos, and often features high-pitched shrieked vocals (differing from traditional death metal) alongside the low-pitched growls commonly featured in traditional death metal. Pioneered by the English heavy metal band Carcass with their 1993 album ''Heartwork'', melodic death metal developed further in Sweden (developed by bands like At the Gates, Dark Tranquillity, and In Flames) in the mid-1990s. The Swedish death metal scene did much to popularise the style, soon centering in the "Gothenburg metal" scene. At the Gates' ''Slaughter of the Soul'', Dark Tranquility's '' The Gallery'', and In Flames' ''The Jester Race'', all released in the mid-1990s, were highly influen ...

Misanthrope (band)
Misanthrope is a French heavy metal music, metal band, formed in 1988. The name of the band is taken from Molière's play ''Le Misanthrope'', reflecting the band's very theatrical style and the influence of the French dramatist on their music and lyrics. The band's genre is difficult to define, but could probably be best described as Progressive death metal, progressive/technical death metal, somewhere along the lines of Opeth or In Flames, with a wide array of tempo and style changes. The band also makes extensive use of keyboards, and features clean, though tormented, vocals alongside the traditional death grunt. Misanthrope was voted best French metal band by the readers of magazines Hard'N'Heavy in 1999, and by the readers of Hard Rock Mag and Hard'N'Heavy in 2000.
