Young Israel Philharmonic Orchestra
The Young Israel Philharmonic Orchestra ( he, התזמורת הפילהרמונית הישראלית הצעירה, YIPO) is the national youth orchestra of Israel, based in the Jerusalem Music Centre, Jerusalem. It consists of 140 members divided into two ensembles, a 40-member string ensemble for ages 11–14, and the larger 100-member symphony orchestra for ages 14–18. Over 90% of the Young Israel Philharmonic Orchestra's graduates go on to higher education in music, with many taking up prominent positions in the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. String Orchestra
A string orchestra is an orchestra consisting solely of a string section made up of the bowed strings used in Western Classical music. The instruments of such an orchestra are most often the following: the violin, which is divided into first and second violin players (each usually playing different parts), the viola, the cello, and usually, but not always, the double bass. The Israel Philharmonic Orchestra (abbreviation IPO; Hebrew: התזמורת הפילהרמונית הישראלית, ''ha-Tizmoret ha-Filharmonit ha-Yisra'elit'') is an Israeli symphony orchestra based in Tel Aviv. Its principal concert venue is Heichal HaTarbut. History The Israel Philharmonic Orchestra was founded as the Palestine Symphony Orchestra by violinist Bronisław Huberman in 1936, at a time of the dismissal of many Jewish musicians from European orchestras. Its inaugural concert took place in Tel Aviv on December 26, 1936, conducted by Arturo Toscanini. Its first principal conductor was William Steinberg. The European Federation of National Youth Orchestras (EFNYO) is the association of the national youth orchestras of Europe. Its mission statement is to "provide a unique platform for the exchange of experience in orchestra training". It is co-funded by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union.
