Yorkie (musician)
David Palmer (born 7 April 1965) also known as Yorkie was born in Clitheroe, Lancashire, England. He is a British musician who was a member of the Liverpool-based band Space from 1997 to 2005. Yorkie is the son of Gladys Palmer, a Liverpool-based singer who owned several rehearsal rooms for bands in Liverpool. Yorkie begin his music career as a member of post-punk band The Dance Party alongside Michael Head, who would later go on to form The Pale Fountains and Shack. Yorkie would go on to form his own band The Balcony. George Shaw (footballer, Born 1886)
George "Yorkie" Shaw (1 April 1886 – 30 April 1971) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Fitzroy in the Victorian Football League (VFL) during the 1910s. Football At 164 cm, rover George Shaw was one of the smallest players in the game's history and kicked two goals in their 1913 Grand Final win against St Kilda. He also played in their premiership side in 1916, retiring in 1920 after playing 117 games for Fitzroy. Following an unsuccessful pre-season trial with Richmond in 1922, Shaw took a position on the VFL field umpires list. Umpiring primarily in the Peninsula Football Association through 1922 and 1923, he was selected to umpire two VFL matches in August 1923, making his debut as a substitute for umpire Bob Scott, who was ill. Yorkie is a chocolate bar made by Nestlé. It was originally made by York-based company Rowntree's, hence the name. History In 1976, Eric Nicoli of Rowntree's spotted a gap in the confectionery market for a "manly" chocolate bar, and so the company launched Yorkie as a chunkier competitor to Cadbury's Dairy Milk. Production was at York and Norwich until 1994. The Yorkie bar has historically been marketed towards men. From the bar's launch until 1992, the "Yorkie bar trucker" was the famous "rough, tough star" of the brand's television adverts. Another prominent ad from this period was a billboard at York railway station with the words "Welcome to" and a picture of a half unwrapped Yorkie bar. Thus the advert read "Welcome to York". Further text beneath said "Where the men are hunky and the chocolate's chunky".
