York Acorn A.R.L.F.C. are an amateur Rugby League club who currently play in the National Conference Premier League in the UK. Their home ground is the Acorn Sports & Social Club on Thanet Road in the Acomb suburb of York. History York Acorn was formed in August 1973 and named after a public house, "The Ackhorne", in the centre of the city of York. It moved to its current ground in 1990 and opened its club house on 19 January 1991. The rugby section maintains control of the day-to-day running of the sports & social club as other sports, such as football and running, are based at the club. In 2011 the club were awarded Sport England's Gold Clubmark for being child friendly. York Acorn were founder members of the National Conference League in 1993 having been elected to Division 2 from their regional league. This three-division league replaced the BARLA National League. Acomb, North Yorkshire
Acomb , is a village and suburb within the City of York unitary authority area, to the western side of York, England. It covers the site of the original village of the same name, which is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086. It is bordered by the suburbs of Holgate, to the east, Clifton, to the north and Woodthorpe to the south. The boundary to the west abuts the fields close to the A1237, York Outer Ring Road. Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, Acomb was incorporated into the City of York in 1934. Formerly a farming village, Acomb expanded over the centuries to become a dormitory area for workers in heavy industry, such as rail engineering, in the 19th and 20th centuries and more recently for a more diverse workforce. Featherstone Lions are an amateur rugby league club from Featherstone, West Yorkshire who play in the National Conference League and the Yorkshire Men's League The juniors (U7 - U18) play in the Yorkshire Junior & Youth League. The Castleford Tigers are a professional rugby league club in Castleford, West Yorkshire, England, that compete in the Super League, the top-level professional rugby league club competition in the Northern Hemisphere.
