Yeshwantrao Ghorpade
Maharaja Srimant Yeshwantrao Hindurao Ghorpade (13 November 1908 - 11 October 1996) was the ruler of the princely state of Sandur from 1928 to 1949. He was the last Rajah of Sandur and presided over the accession of the state to the Dominion of India. He was also an ardent wildlife conservationist and member of the Bombay Natural History Society. Early life and education Yeshwantrao was born on 13 November 1908 in Sanduru, the capital of Sandur state to Bhujangrao Yeshwantrao Raje Ghorpade, the jagirdar of Gajendragad and his wife, Tarabai Sahib Ghorpade. Yeshwantrao had his education at Baldwin High School, Bangalore and Holkar College, Indore and graduated from the Allahabad University. On 5 May 1928, he succeeded his deceased cousin, Venkata Rao III as the Raja of Sandur and was formally installed on 20 June 1928. Indian Independence Medal
The Indian Independence Medal was instituted by the Dominion of India and approved by King George VI by way of a Royal Warrant dated 21 July 1948. It was a commemorative medal for service with the Indian armed forces at the time of independence in August 1947. Attached British personnel were eligible. It was awarded to all those who, on 15 August 1947, were members of the armed forces of India, including the forces of princely states that acceded to Indian rule before 1 January 1948. British military personnel who remained in India after independence and who served with Indian forces up to 1 January 1948 qualified, although those with British units awaiting repatriation did not. Madhavaiah Krishnan
Madhaviah Krishnan (30 June 1912 – 18 February 1996), better known as M. Krishnan, was a pioneering Indian wildlife photographer, writer and naturalist. Early life M. Krishnan was born in Tirunelveli on 30 June 1912 and was the youngest of eight siblings. His father was a Tamil writer and reformer A. Madhaviah who worked with the Salt and Abkari Department of the Government of Madras. His father's writings included one of the first realistic Tamil novels, '' Padmavathi Charithram'' published in 1898 and an English novel '' Thillai Govindan'' published in 1916. Sandur State
Sandur State was a princely state of India during the British Raj, part of the Madras States Agency. Its capital was the town of Sanduru. History From 1731 until the accession to India, the Sandur state was ruled by Maratha royals. In 1776 – 1790 its territory was annexed to the Mysore Kingdom. Between 27 October 1817 and 1 July 1818 Sandur was annexed to the Peshwa's Dominions.
