Yerevan Figure Skating And Hockey Sports School
Yerevan Figure Skating and Hockey Sports School ( hy, Երևանի գեղասահքի և հոկեյի մարզադպրոց), is a figure skating centre and school in the Armenian capital Yerevan. The centre was opened in December 2015 and has a capacity of 538 seats. It is located on Admiral Isakov 27/10 Avenue, adjacent to the Yerevan Velodrome. The centre was named after the 10-time figure skating world champion and Russia, Russian politician Irina Rodnina. In 2019, the Yerevan City Council renamed the Irina Rodnina Figure Skating School to Yerevan Figure Skating and Hockey Sports School. Background The first figure skating and ice hockey school in Yerevan was opened in 1971. However, the construction of the new centre was launched June 2014 and was completed in November 2015. Figure skating is a sport in which individuals, pairs, or groups perform on figure skates on ice. It was the first winter sport to be included in the Olympic Games, when contested at the 1908 Olympics in London. Yerevan Velodrome ( hy, Երևանի հեծանվահրապարակ), is an outdoor velodrome or track cycling venue in Yerevan, Armenia. Located on Admiral Isakov Avenue and owned by the municipality of Yerevan, the long track is able to host international events. The velodrome has a capacity of 650 seats with lamelled wood roof and covers a total area of . It was built to replace the old cycling track which was later demolished in 2012. The construction of the venue began in June 2010 and completed in September 2011. It was officially opened on 15 September 2011 with the presence of the Armenian president Serzh Sargsyan. The velodrome can provide a parking lot up to 240 cars. The Yerevan City Council () is the lawmaking body of the city of Yerevan, the capital and largest city of Armenia.
