Yali Dream Creations LLC, known as YDC, is an Indian comic books publisher, focused on creating original stories using comics and graphic novels. YDC was founded in 2012 by Asvin Srivatsangam, and published its first graphic novel in 2013, written by Shamik Dasgupta. The name 'YALI' (யாளி) was inspired from Hindu Mythology. Chitrakatha (Hindi: चित्रकथा, Telugu: చిత్రకథ) are comics or graphic novels originating from India published in a number of Indian languages. India has a long tradition of comic readership and themes associated with extensive mythologies and folk-tales have appeared as children's comic books for decades. Indian comics often have large publication. The comic industry was at its peak in the late 1980s and early 1990s and during this period popular comics were easily sold more than 500,000 copies over the course of its shelf life of several weeks. Yali (mythology)
Yali ( ta, யாளி, IAST: Yāḷi), also called Vyala, is a Hindu mythological creature, portrayed with the head and the body of a lion, the trunk and the tusks of an elephant, and sometimes bearing equine features. The creature is represented in many South Indian temples, often sculpted onto the pillars. There also exist variations of the creature, with it possessing the appendages of other beasts. It has sometimes been described as a ''leogryph'' (part-lion and part-griffin), with some bird-like features, with the trunk referred to as a proboscis. Iconography Descriptions of, and references to, yalis are ancient, but they became prominent in South Indian sculptures in the 16th century. Shamik Dasgupta
Shamik Dasgupta is an Indian comic book writer. He has done work for Virgin Comics, specifically for '' Ramayan 3392 A.D.'' a series based on the ancient Hindu epic ''Ramayana'' and set in a distant future. He has also written a one shot horror graphic novel called ''Virulents''. He is the editor in chief of ''Arkin Comics'', a popular 3D comic book in India which is custom made to feature the comic reader. In 2012 he started working on a graphic novel named 'The Caravan' for Yali Dream Creations. This was released in 2013. The Caravan is a horror graphic novel written by Shamik Dasgupta. Dasgupta described it as "a classic horror/action/adventure in the trend of From Dusk till Dawn and 30 Days of Night copiously coated with spicy Bollywood masala." For the same publisher, he did the graphic novel adaptation 'Devi Chaudhurani', which was originally written by Bankim Chandra Chatterji.
