YRT Special Constable Services
The YRT Special Constable Services is the security section of the York Region Transit (YRT) and Viva transit system in York Region, Ontario, Canada. The Special Constable Services were launched in September 2005, and are responsible for safety and security on the YRT and Viva. These Special Constables are peace officers, have similar powers as police officers, and are sworn in by the YRT and the York Regional Police. Authorized as " Special Constables" by the York Police Services Board, pursuant to Section 53 of the Police Services Act of Ontario. The Special Constable appointment, by its very nature affords " peace officer" powers under section 2 of the Canadian Criminal Code, as it relates to the duties of the YRT/Viva Transit System. York Region Transit
York Region Transit (YRT) is the public transit operator in York Region, Ontario, Canada. Its headquarters are in Richmond Hill, at 50 High Tech Road. YRT operates 65 full-time, rush hour and limited routes, 35 school services, and six Viva bus rapid transit routes. Five contracted Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) bus routes run within York Region's boundaries (one in Vaughan and four in Markham). Passengers who cross Steeles Avenue (the Toronto–York boundary) on these routes must pay an additional fare (the YRT or TTC fare) to continue their trip(s). Some YRT routes operate within the City of Toronto; these buses generally run to and from TTC subway stations. Viva (bus Rapid Transit)
Viva is the bus rapid transit operations of York Region Transit in York Region, Ontario, Canada. Viva service forms the spine for YRT's local bus service, providing seamless transit service across York Region with connections to northern Toronto. Viva was designed and built using a public–private partnership (P3) model. York Region partnered with York Consortium, which comprises seven private sector firms with international experience in transit design, architecture, construction and operations. Under the terms of the partnership agreement, public sector responsibilities include establishing fare policies and service levels, ownership of all assets, and control of revenues and funding. York Regional Police
The York Regional Police (YRP) are a law enforcement organization that serves over 1.1 million residents in the Regional Municipality of York, Ontario, York Region of Ontario, Canada, located north of Toronto. YRP was formed in 1971 from the police forces maintained by the nine municipalities which amalgamated into York Region at the time.
