World Games Station
World Games is a station on the Red line of Kaohsiung MRT in Nanzih District, Kaohsiung, Taiwan. The station is named after the World Games 2009. Station overview The station is a four-level, elevated station with two side platforms and four exits. It is 134 meters long and is located at the intersection of Zuonan Rd. and Jhonghai Rd. It was originally planned to be named "Banping Mountain Station", but was changed in July 2005 to its current name. Because it is the first elevated station after the line emerges from underground, the aim was to create an iconic station similar to the Taipei Metro's Jiantan station. Public art Public art in the station was designed by Ron Wood and Christian Karl Janssen. Titled "Floating Forest", the artwork covers an area of and is displayed on the glass canopy overlooking the tracks, at the concourse level, and along the stairways. Nanzih District, United States National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (also spelled Nanzi; ) is a district located in Kaohsiung City, Taiwan. It was the northernmost district of Kaohsiung City until Kaohsiung County was merged into the municipality in 2010. Nanzih offers convenient access to transportation, including a train and bus station and an interchange on the Sun Yat-sen Freeway. Moreover, it also contains the Nanzih Industrial Zone. Taipei Rapid Transit System
Taipei Mass Rapid Transit (MRT), branded as Metro Taipei, is a rapid transit system serving the areas of Taipei and New Taipei in Taiwan, operated by the government-owned Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation, which also operates the Maokong Gondola. CPC Corporation () is a state-owned petroleum, natural gas, and gasoline company in Taiwan and is the core of the Taiwanese petrochemicals industry. History Early history CPC was founded on 1 June 1946 in Shanghai as Chinese Petroleum Corporation (中國石油) by the government of the Republic of China (ROC, then on Mainland China). National Stadium (Kaohsiung)
The National Stadium (; also named 龍騰體育場), formerly known as the World Games Stadium, is a multi-purpose stadium in Zuoying District, Kaohsiung, Taiwan. It is currently the largest stadium in Taiwan in terms of capacity. Completed in 2009, it is used mostly for football matches and it hosted the main events for the 2009 World Games. The stadium has a capacity of 55,000 people. Since the conclusion of the games, the stadium has been used for some Taiwanese football team matches. The stadium, designed by Japanese architect Toyo Ito, makes use of solar energy to provide its power needs. The stadium's semi spiral-shaped, like a dragon, is the first stadium in the world to provide power using solar power technology. The National Sports Training Center (NSTC; ) is a sport center in Zuoying District, Kaohsiung, Taiwan. History The sport center was originally established in November 1976 as Zuoying Training Center to train athletes that participated for the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Jiantan Station
Jiantan (, formerly transliterated as Chientan Station until 2003) is a metro station in Taipei, Taiwan served by Taipei Metro. There was a station of the same name on the now-defunct Tamsui railway line, however the position was different; the TRA station was further south. Station overview The two-level, elevated station structure with one island platform and two side exits. The washrooms are inside the entrance area. Notable landmarks are National Revolutionary Martyrs' Shrine, Jiantan Park and Ming Chuan University. This station is well known for its architecture, which is based on a dragon boat. The 2009 World Games () the eighth edition of the World Games, were an international multi-sport event held in Kaohsiung, Taiwan (under the name Chinese Taipei) from 16 July 2009 to 26 July 2009. The games featured sports that are not contested in the Olympic Games. Nearly 6,000 athletes, officials, coaches, referees and others from 101 countries participated in the 2009 Kaohsiung World Games, setting a record high for the multi-sport competition.
