Westmeath Senior Football Championship
The Westmeath Senior Football Championship is an annual Gaelic Athletic Association competition organised by Westmeath GAA between the top Gaelic football clubs in County Westmeath. The winner of the Westmeath Championship qualifies to represent the county in the Leinster Senior Club Football Championship, the winner of which progresses to the All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship. The current champions are St Loman's, winning their 8th title in 2020. The Downs GAA
The Downs Gaelic Athletic Association (''Na Dúnta Cumann Lúthchleas Gael'') is a Gaelic football and ladies' Gaelic football club located in County Westmeath, Ireland. The club is located in The Downs, a community east of Mullingar. History The club was founded in 1893 and has used a variety of names: ''Woodown Rackers, The Downs Pigeons, The Downs Clan Lár'' and ''The Downs St Ciarán's''. Westmeath Intermediate Football Championship is an annual Gaelic Athletic Association competition organised by Westmeath GAA between Gaelic football clubs in County Westmeath. The winner of the competition qualifies to represent the county in the Leinster Intermediate Club Football Championship, the winner of which progresses to the All-Ireland Intermediate Club Football Championship. The top club is promoted to the Westmeath Senior Football Championship, while the bottom club is relegated to the Westmeath Junior Football Championship. History In its early years, the competition was more transitional, with Caulry winning against Tyrrellspass in the 1946 IFC final and qualifying for the senior championship in the same year. Rosemount, County Westmeath
Rosemount, historically called Ballybrickoge (), is a village in County Westmeath, Ireland. It is located 5 km northeast of the town of Moate. History Located close to the southwest border of the ancient Barony of Moycashel, Rosemount was once a stronghold of a prominent branch of the Geoghegan (Mag Eochagain) sept of the Southern UI Neill. Like other Geoghegans in Moycashel, and wider Westmeath, they lost most of their prized grazing land and lake fisheries to the Cromwellian and Williamite settlers (both undertakers and officers) after the Down Survey. Many of the Geoghegan family ancestors are interred in the mortuary chapel at Kill. In 1932 Harvard Archaeological Society excavated a Bronze Age cairn (cemetery) with the remains of 44 graves from the sixth century on top of Knockastia (or ''Cnoc Aiste''), which at 200 m (656 ft) is one of the highest points in County Westmeath. 2017 Westmeath Senior Football Championship
The 2017 Westmeath Senior Football Championship is the 113th edition of the Westmeath GAA's premier club Gaelic football tournament for senior graded teams in County Westmeath, Ireland. The tournament consists of 12 teams, with the winner going on to represent Westmeath in the Leinster Senior Club Football Championship. The championship starts with a group stage and then progresses to a knock out stage. St. Loman's Mullingar were the defending champions after they defeated Tyrrellspass in the previous years final to complete a "2-in-a-row" of titles. This was Rosemount's return to the senior grade after a 17-year exodus when claiming the 2016 Westmeath Intermediate Football Championship title. Tyrrellspass GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in the town of Tyrrellspass in County Westmeath, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. History The team was founded in 1961 and participates in both men's and women's leagues. The team won the Westmeath Senior Football Championship in 1999, 2006 and defended their title in 2007. Garrycastle GAA
Garrycastle is a Gaelic football club from the town of Athlone in County Westmeath, Republic of Ireland. The club was founded in 1981 after GAA fans in the area saw the need for a second club in Athlone to cater for the growing population of the town. They won their first Westmeath senior football championship in 2001, and their first Leinster club football title in 2011 after a last-minute free from second-half substitute Conor Cosgrove. They are the first and only Westmeath club to win the title. In 2004, Dessie Dolan was the first player from the club to be awarded an All Star. Dessie received an award for Westmeath footballer of the year for 2015 after his Man of the Match performance against Meath in the Leinster Championship.
