Wurdiboluc is a rural locality in the Surf Coast Shire, Victoria, Australia. In the , Wurdiboluc had a population of 569 people. A post office was opened in July 1927 as Wurdiboluc State School PO. A receiving office had previously existed since around 1902. It was renamed Wurdiboluc PO in 1932 and closed on 30 September 1966. Wurdiboluc once had a state school; the date of its closure is unknown. In 1902, a proposal was made to amalgamate the school with that at nearby Wensleydale, on a new central site; instead, the Wensleydale school was closed in 1903, and the Department of Education arranged to transport the Wensleydale students to the Wurdiboluc school. Newspaper advertisements from the 1860s refer to a "Wurdee Boluc Hotel" or "Reeves' Telegraph Hotel" at Wurdiboluc. The Division of Corangamite is an Australian electoral division in the state of Victoria. The division was proclaimed in 1900, and was one of the original 65 divisions to be contested at the first federal election. It is named for Lake Corangamite, although the lake no longer falls within the division's boundaries. Buckley is a rural locality in the Surf Coast Shire, Victoria, Australia. It was formerly known as Laketown. In the 2016 census, Buckley had a population of 211 people. Laketown A hotel called the Lady of the Lake Hotel opened on Barrabool Road at what is now Buckley in 1854, and the area began to be known as Laketown. The hotel reportedly flourished, being located on the road to Colac, and became a social centre for the area. The hotel was a coach stop on the road to Colac, and the Duke of Edinburgh reportedly stopped there in 1870 while his party's horses were being rested. A post office opened at Laketown on 15 March 1872, and a store as added around the same period. Modewarre is a locality in the Surf Coast Shire, Victoria, Australia. The town adjoins Lake Modewarre. In the 2016 census, Modewarre had a population of 276 people. Modewarre Primary School began as a local Anglican school in the 1850s, became a vested National School in 1859, and closed in 1971. A post office at Modewarre opened in 1859 and closed in 1967. The Modewarre Memorial Hall was erected in 1923 in memory of World War I. The Modewarre Avenue of Honour on Cape Otway Road was planted in 1918, and is the last surviving Avenue of Honour in the Surf Coast Shire. Gherang is a small rural township in Victoria, Australia. It is in the Surf Coast Shire local government area, and is located on the northern edge of the Great Otway National Park and the Anglesea Heath. At the 2006 census, Gherang had a population of 370. The area is mostly farmland, although there has been some rural residential subdivision. Quarries in the area produce good quality gravel which is mostly used for roads. Wensleydale is a small rural community in Victoria, Australia. ''Wordieboluc'' Post Office opened on 15 March 1866 and was replaced by the ''Wensleydale'' office in 1872. It closed in 1955. Wensleydale was the terminus of a railway line which branched from the Port Fairy line near Moriac. The line opened in 1890 and was used to transport firewood, gravel and brown coal Lignite, often referred to as brown coal, is a soft, brown, combustible, sedimentary rock formed from naturally compressed peat. The Surf Coast Shire is a local government area in the Barwon South West region of Victoria, Australia, located in the south-western part of the state. It covers an area of and in June 2018 had a population of 32,251. It includes the towns of Aireys Inlet, Anglesea, Lorne, Moriac, Torquay and Winchelsea.
