Wensleydale, Victoria
Wensleydale is a small rural community in Victoria, Australia. ''Wordieboluc'' Post Office opened on 15 March 1866 and was replaced by the ''Wensleydale'' office in 1872. It closed in 1955. Wensleydale was the terminus of a railway line which branched from the Port Fairy line near Moriac. The line opened in 1890 and was used to transport firewood, gravel and brown coal Lignite, often referred to as brown coal, is a soft, brown, combustible, sedimentary rock formed from naturally compressed peat. Eastern View, Victoria
Eastern View is a locality in the Surf Coast Shire, Victoria, Australia. Eastern View was a remote coastal area prior to the construction of the Great Ocean Road, which was opened to Eastern View, albeit in the form of a narrow gravel track, in March 1922. Only four houses were located in the area in 1924; a fifth was later extended and granted a liquor license as the Eastern View Hotel in 1927. The hotel owners later leased land on the ocean side of the Great Ocean Road and built a tennis court. The Eastern View Hotel was a popular tourist destination for many years, but closed in 1957. The Great Ocean Road Trust developed a nine-hole golf course at Eastern View in 1936. It closed at the beginning of World War II, and did not reopen. Both the former hotel building and the remnants of the golf course were destroyed in the Ash Wednesday bushfires in 1983. Moriac, Victoria
Moriac is a town in Victoria (Australia), Victoria, Australia, located approximately west of Geelong, Victoria, Geelong. It forms part of the Surf Coast Shire. At the 2016 Australian census, 2016 census, Moriac had a population of 782. A Post Office opened on 1 August 1854 as Duneed, was renamed Mount Moriac in 1864, and Moriac in about 1909. Port Fairy Railway Line
The Warrnambool railway line (also known as the South West line, formerly known as the Port Fairy railway line) is a railway serving the south west of Victoria, Australia. Running from the western Melbourne suburb of Newport through the cities of Geelong and Warrnambool, the line once terminated at the coastal town of Port Fairy before being truncated to Dennington (just west of Warrnambool). This closed section of line has been converted into the 37 km long Port Fairy to Warrnambool Rail Trail. The line continues to see both passenger and freight services today. Winchelsea South has always been a sparsely-populated rural area, with the locality most known for a brown coal mine which operated within its boundaries from 1921 until 1928, and again from 1931 to 1932, and from 1943 to 1957. Bambra is a rural locality in the Surf Coast Shire, Victoria, Australia. In the 2016 census, Bambra had a population of 101 people. It is named after an Aboriginal word for mushroom. The locality was initially named "Retreat", but was later renamed Bambra after an Aboriginal word for mushroom. The area was opened up for selection in the 1860s. Bambra State School was opened on 20 September 1866, closed temporarily in 1945–1946, and closed permanently in 1969. The Bambra Chapel, a Bible Christian Church, was opened in 1868, and became a Methodist church in 1903. A second church, the Holy Trinity Anglican Church, held its first service on 25 May 1902. Boonah is a rural locality in the Surf Coast Shire, Victoria, Australia. History The locality was the base for various sawmilling operations from the 1880s. The Boonah State School opened on 15 August 1882, servicing families working at the Benwerrin coal mine, the three local sawmills and on local farms. It closed in 1927 due to falling attendance. Aireys Inlet is a small coastal inlet and town located on the Great Ocean Road, southwest of Melbourne, Victoria (Australia), Victoria, Australia.
