Wujiaochang Plan
Wujiaochang ({{zh, s=五角场, Shanghainese: ''Ng-koh-zan'') is an roundabout-centered area in Yangpu District, Shanghai, China hence its name. (Wujiaochang means "five-cornered Square"; as it is centered on a roundabout of five roads.) It is divided in half by the Middle Ring Road, which cuts straight above the roundabout. It is one of the ten designated business hubs in Shanghai. History Wujiaochang was first created in the 1930s as the heart of the 'Great Shanghai' plan drawn up by the newly formed Republic of China. However, the Japanese Invasion of China in 1937 forced the construction to stop. When the war was over, the Chinese government was too poor to continue the project, so it was left to stand until the 21st century, when infrastructure and buildings were added and made the area a major business hub. Shanghainese
The Shanghainese language, also known as the Shanghai dialect, or Hu language, is a variety of Wu Chinese spoken in the Districts of Shanghai, central districts of the Shanghai, City of Shanghai and its surrounding areas. It is classified as part of the Sino-Tibetan language family. Shanghainese, like the rest of the Wu language group, is mutually unintelligible with other varieties of Chinese, such as Mandarin. Middle Ring Road (Shanghai)
Middle Ring Road () is a ring expressway in the city of Shanghai, China. It is the second in a series of four ring expressways around the city of Shanghai. Construction began in April 2003 on the first section of the Middle Ring Road in Yangpu District. The Middle Ring Road crosses the Huangpu River twice, using the Jungong Road Tunnel and the Shangzhong Road Tunnel.
