Wuhan University School Of Information Management
The School of Information Management (SIM) of Wuhan University is the oldest and largest Library and Information Science (LIS) education and research institution in China. The predecessor of SIM was Boone Library School at Wuchang, which was founded by Mary Elizabeth Wood and Samuel T. Y. Seng in March 1920. In 1953, Boone Library School merged into Wuhan University and became Wuhan University's Department of Library Science. In 1984, the Ministry of Education of China (MOE) approved the set up of the School of Library and Information Science of Wuhan University and it has become the School of Information Management of Wuhan University since 2001. Faculty The school has 104 faculty members and staff, among which 32 are professors (including one senior professor and 26 doctoral advisers), 43 are associate professors and advanced researchers. Wuhan
Wuhan (, ; ; ) is the capital of Hubei, Hubei Province in the China, People's Republic of China. Hubei
Hubei (; ; alternately Hupeh) is a landlocked province of the People's Republic of China, and is part of the Central China region. The name of the province means "north of the lake", referring to its position north of Dongting Lake. Boone Library School
Huachung University () was a Christian university in Wuhan, in China's Yangtze valley, originally called Boone University, was founded by the union of several Christian universities in 1924 and renamed Huachung in 1929. The university expanded until it was forced to retreat during the Second Sino-Japanese War, but returned to Wuhan in 1945. Wuchang District
Wuchang forms part of the urban core of and is one of 13 urban districts of the prefecture-level city of Wuhan, the capital of Hubei Province, China. It is the oldest of the three cities that merged into modern-day Wuhan, and stood on the right (southeastern) bank of the Yangtze River, opposite the mouth of the Han River. The two other cities, Hanyang and Hankou, were on the left (northwestern) bank, separated from each other by the Han River. The name "Wuchang" remains in common use for the part of urban Wuhan south of the Yangtze River. Administratively, however, it is split between several districts of the City of Wuhan. Mary Elizabeth Wood
Mary Elizabeth Wood (August 22, 1861 – May 1, 1931) was an American librarian and missionary, best known for her work in promoting Western librarianship practices and programs in China. She is credited with the foundation of the first library school in China, the Boone Library School, as well as spurring the development of Chinese librarianship as a modern profession.
