Swimming (sport)
Swimming is an individual or team racing sport that requires the use of one's entire body to move through water. The sport takes place in pools or open water (e.g., in a sea or lake). Competitive swimming is one of the most popular Olympic sports, with varied distance events in butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle, and individual medley. In addition to these individual events, four swimmers can take part in either a freestyle or medley relay. A medley relay consists of four swimmers who will each swim a different stroke, ordered as backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and freestyle. Swimming each stroke requires a set of specific techniques; in competition, there are distinct regulations concerning the acceptable form for each individual stroke. 2012 FINA World Swimming Championships (25 M)
The 11th FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) was held in Istanbul, Turkey on 12–16 December 2012. This swimming-only championships took place in the Sinan Erdem Dome; all events were swum in a 25-meter ( short-course) pool. The United States topped the medal standings with a total of 27 medals and had the most gold medals with 11. A total of 18 championship records were set and 2 world records (both set by American Ryan Lochte) broken. Lochte and Hungarian Katinka Hosszú were named the best male and female swimmers of the competition. Lochte finished the meet with 8 total medals (breaking his previous record of 7 set in 2010) and Hosszú had 5 total medals. 2017 FINA Swimming World Cup
The 2017 FINA Swimming World Cup was a series of eight two-day meets in eight different cities between August and November 2017. This edition was held in the usual short-course (25 meter pool) format. Like the previous short course World Cup in 2016, 36 events were scheduled. Meets The 2017 World Cup consisted of the following eight meets, which were divided into three clusters. Eindhoven returned after having been omitted for the last two editions, while Paris and Dubai were dropped in comparison to the previous year. 2015 European Short Course Swimming Championships
The 2015 European Short Course Swimming Championships (25 m) took place in Netanya, Israel, from 2–6 December 2015. They were originally scheduled to be held in January 2015, but the LEN moved the event to December. The venue of the event was the brand new swimming complex of the Wingate Institute. This complex features an Olympic-size pool with 10 lanes and 3 meter depth, backed by the latest built-in filtration systems, an 8-lane 50 m pool and a 6-lane 25 m pool. The swimmer of the meet honors went to Katinka Hosszú of Hungary and Gregorio Paltrinieri of Italy. Hosszú won six gold medals and one silver, breaking two world records and six championship records, while Paltrinieri won one gold medal in a world record time. 2009 Australian Short Course Swimming Championships
The 2009 Australian Short Course Swimming Championships were held at the Hobart Aquatic Centre from Saturday 8 August to Wednesday 12 August. They were organised by Swimming Australia and sponsored by Telstra. The events were spread over five days of competition featuring heats in the morning, with semi-finals and finals in the evening session. The format of the meet consisted of heats for all individual events with semi-finals in the 50 and 100 m individual events. The 200 and 400 m events consisted of A and B finals with no semi-finals whilst the 800 and 1500 m freestyle and relay events consisted of timed finals only. 2020 International Swimming League
The 2020 International Swimming League was the second edition of the International Swimming League, a professional swimming league, established in 2019. It comprised ten teams composed of both women and men. The league, due to COVID-19 pandemic travel restrictions, consisted of thirteen short course swimming meets which took place in the city of Budapest, Hungary. The US-based Cali Condors won the Grand Final, with Caeleb Dressel winning the season MVP award.
