2009 Australian Short Course Swimming Championships
The 2009 Australian Short Course Swimming Championships were held at the Hobart Aquatic Centre from Saturday 8 August to Wednesday 12 August. They were organised by Swimming Australia and sponsored by Telstra. The events were spread over five days of competition featuring heats in the morning, with semi-finals and finals in the evening session. The format of the meet consisted of heats for all individual events with semi-finals in the 50 and 100 m individual events. The 200 and 400 m events consisted of A and B finals with no semi-finals whilst the 800 and 1500 m freestyle and relay events consisted of timed finals only. Hobart Aquatic Centre
The Doone Kennedy Hobart Aquatic Centre is a major, $17 million aquatic sporting facility located upon the Queens Domain, within less than 1 kilometre of the CBD of Hobart, the capital city of Tasmania, Australia. The venue has hosted the Australian Swimming Championships, the Tasmanian Swimming Championships, FINA Swimming World Cup, Pan Pacific Games and the Qantas Skins. Daniel Rae Bell (born 9 May 1990) is a New Zealand swimmer. He swam for New Zealand at the 2008 Summer Olympics and 2012 Summer Olympics; his events being the 100 m butterfly & backstroke and the 4x 100 m medley relay. Geoff Huegill
Geoffrey Andrew Huegill (born 4 March 1979) is an Australian swimmer and dual Olympian who won seventy-two international medals, including two medals in Olympics and six world champion titles, throughout his career. He held eight world records, including 50 metres butterfly. Huegill has been recognised as technically the best butterflier and was the dominant butterfly champion during the early 2000s. Affectionately known as 'Skippy', he is the nation's favourite comeback kid. Huegill came out of retirement in 2008 and shed 45 kilograms of weight to fight his way back to competition and was declared a national hero when he won gold at the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games in the 100 metre butterfly. Matija "Matt" Jaukovic (born 17 November 1985) is an Australian and former Montenegrin competitive swimmer. He is a former world record-holder in the short course 50 metre butterfly. Over the course of his career he has also held Commonwealth, Oceanian, Australian national, and Australian All Comers records in the short course 50 metre butterfly as well as an Australian All Comers record in the 100 metre butterfly. He won a total of 10 medals in international competitions, all at the FINA Swimming World Cup, seven of which were gold medals and three of which were silver medals. Christian David Sprenger (born 19 December 1985) is an Australian former breaststroke swimmer. He trains at the Commercial Swimming Club under Simon Cusack. Swimming career At the 2008 Australian Swimming Championships he qualified in the 100- and 200-metre breaststroke, placing second in both events to qualify for the Olympics in Beijing. He failed to make the finals in either event but picked up a silver after swimming in the heats of the medley relay.
