Woodstock is a locality in Victoria, Australia, located just north of Melbourne's outer suburbs, located within the City of Whittlesea local government area. Woodstock recorded a population of 150 at the . Australian contemporary poet Robbie Coburn hails from Woodstock. Former Western Australian premier Philip Collier was born and raised in Woodstock. History Woodstock Post Office opened on 9 January 1858 and closed in 1971. To the west Woodstock West Post office opened in 1877 and continued operating until 1959. In September 1876 a small timber Catholic church, known as the church of St. Patrick, was erected for local worshippers. Deputations were made to the Victorian government during the 1890s to bring a railway line through the area. Electoral District Of Yan Yean
The electoral district of Yan Yean is an electoral district of the Victorian Legislative Assembly. It is located on the fringes of Melbourne's northern suburbs and contains the towns of Hurstbridge, Plenty, Whittlesea and Yan Yean. Yan Yean was created for the 1992 election and has always been held by Labor, although usually marginally. The seat became notionally Liberal after the Craigieburn end of the electorate was removed due to population growth in a redistribution prior to the 2002 election, leading to Andre Haermeyer's decision to contest Kororoit instead. Nevertheless, Labor's Danielle Green easily won the seat, winning with a margin of 9.5% over her Liberal opponent, future party leader Matthew Guy. Hume Highway
The Hume Highway, including the sections now known as the Hume Freeway and the Hume Motorway, is one of Australia's major inter-city national highways, running for between Melbourne in the southwest and Sydney in the northeast. Upgrading of the route from Sydney's outskirts to Melbourne's outskirts to dual carriageway was completed on 7 August 2013. Philip Collier
Philip Collier (21 April 1873 – 18 October 1948) was an Australian politician who served as the 14th Premier of Western Australia from 1924 to 1930 and from 1933 to 1936. He was leader of the Labor Party from 1917 to 1936, and is Western Australia's longest-serving premier from that party. Collier was born in Victoria and came to Western Australia to work in the mines. He became involved in the union movement on the Eastern Goldfields, and entered parliament at the 1905 state election, winning the seat of Boulder (which he retained for the rest of his life). In 1911, Collier became a minister in the government of John Scaddan. He replaced Scaddan as Labor leader in 1917, in the aftermath of the split over conscription, and became premier when Labor won the 1924 state election. Robbie Coburn (born 25 June 1994) is an Australian poet and author. His young adult verse novel ''The Foal in the Wire'' was published in 2025. Early life and education Born in Melbourne in 1994, Robbie Coburn grew up on his family's farm in Woodstock, Victoria, the son of a horse trainer. As a child, his mother would read him the verse of Banjo Paterson. He attended high school at Assumption College, Kilmore. When Coburn was a teenager, writer John Marsden came to his high school as a visiting author; an experience Coburn considers one of the most formative moments of his life. He began writing poetry at the age of 14, inspired by the works of Edgar Allan Poe. Robert Adamson, whose work Coburn discovered as a teenager, was his idol and mentor, and one of his greatest influences.
