Woodsmoor railway station is on the Buxton Line in Woodsmoor, a suburb of Stockport, Greater Manchester, England. It was opened by British Rail in 1990. The station is from Stepping Hill Hospital. Facilities The station has a staffed ticket office on platform 1, which is staffed on a limited basis (weekday a.m peak only, 07:10 - 10:10). Stockport Grammar School is a co-educational independent day school in Stockport, England. Founded in 1487 by former Lord Mayor of London Sir Edmund Shaa, it is the second oldest in the North of England, after Lancaster Royal Grammar School, and a member of the Headmasters' and Headmistresses' Conference. History Foundation The school was founded in 1487 by Sir Edmund Shaa, the 1482 Lord Mayor of London whose will provided for a school and a small chapel in St Mary's Church in Stockport and funds to maintain a priest to chant masses and teach grammar. The Metropolitan Borough of Stockport is a metropolitan borough of Greater Manchester in North West England, south-east of central Manchester. Stockport is a town and borough in Greater Manchester, England, south-east of Manchester, south-west of Ashton-under-Lyne and north of Macclesfield. The River Goyt and Tame merge to create the River Mersey here. British Railways (BR), which from 1965 traded as British Rail, was a state-owned company that operated most of the overground rail transport in Great Britain from 1948 to 1997. Stepping Hill Hospital is in Stockport, Greater Manchester, England. It is managed by Stockport NHS Foundation Trust. History The facility was first established on Stepping Hill as the Stepping Hill Poor Law Hospital in December 1905. The facility became a military hospital during the First World War and joined the National Health Service as the Stepping Hill Municipal Hospital in 1948. In an incident which began in July 2011, 3 patients were found to have been unlawfully killed by poisoning at the hospital. The United Kingdom's first prostate cancer operation using a hand-held robot was undertaken at the hospital in March 2012. Hazel Grove is a suburb in the Metropolitan Borough of Stockport, Greater Manchester, England, close to the Peak District national park. Within the boundaries of the Historic counties of England, historic county of Cheshire, the area was known as Bullock Smithy until 1836. History Early history Hazel Grove is made up of three separate townships: Norbury, Greater Manchester, Norbury, Torkington and Bosden-cum-Handforth. Norbury (Nordberie) was mentioned in the Domesday Survey in 1086. Each of the townships were manorial lands. Until the 17th century, the area was known exclusively by each of the respective townships. In 1560, Richard Bullock built a Forge, smithy on the corner of what is now Torkington Park.
