Winfried Höntsch
Winfried Höntsch (9 June 1930 – 30 January 2022) was a German musicologist and venue director. Life and career Born in Dresden, Höntsch studied musicology at the Humboldt University of Berlin and the Hochschule für Musik "Hanns Eisler". From 1956, he worked in the music department of the Ministry of Culture (GDR) in Berlin. In 1962, he became first dramaturge at the Staatsschauspiel Dresden. In 1968 he took over the artistic direction of the Kulturpalast. From 1970 to 1976, he worked in the Philosophy and Cultural Studies section of the Technical University of Dresden and received his doctorate in 1975. Musicologist
Musicology (from Greek μουσική ''mousikē'' 'music' and -λογια ''-logia'', 'domain of study') is the scholarly analysis and research-based study of music. Musicology departments traditionally belong to the humanities, although some music research is scientific in focus (psychological, sociological, acoustical, neurological, computational). Some geographers and anthropologists have an interest in musicology so the social sciences also have an academic interest. A scholar who participates in musical research is a musicologist. Musicology traditionally is divided in three main branches: historical musicology, systematic musicology and ethnomusicology. Historical musicologists mostly study the history of the western classical music tradition, though the study of music history need not be limited to that. Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (german: Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, abbreviated HU Berlin) is a German public research university in the central borough of Mitte in Berlin. The Staatsschauspiel Dresden (State Playhouse Dresden) is a theatre in Dresden. It is maintained by the Free State of Saxony, hence its name. Kulturpalast
The Kulturpalast Dresden () is a modernist building built by Wolfgang Hänsch during the era of the German Democratic Republic. It was the largest multi-purpose hall in Dresden when it opened in 1969, and was used for concerts, dances, conferences and other events. The building underwent several years of reconstruction beginning in 2012 and opened with a new concert hall in April 2017. Unlike the other buildings in the Altmarkt square, the Kulturpalast is not designed in the unadorned International Style. It is a stand-alone building with a floorspace of around . It faces Wilsdruffer Straße and forms the second part of the Altmarkt square. The Dresden Music Festival (German: Dresdner Musikfestspiele) is an annual music festival which takes place in Dresden, Germany in May and June. Although classical music, including contemporary classical music, forms the core of its performances, world music, jazz, and dance are also presented. Hanns Eisler Prize
The Hanns Eisler Prize was an East-German music award, named after the composer Hanns Eisler. It was awarded by Radio DDR – with advisory participation of the music section of the Akademie der Künste der DDR in Berlin (East) and the (VDK) – and on the occasion of his 70th birthday on 6 July 1968, the first time in the ballroom of the . The Hanns Eisler Prize was endowed with 10,000 marks and was one of the most renowned music prizes in the German Democratic Republic. Statute The statutes stated: "The Hanns Eisler Prize shall be awarded for new compositions and musicological works which make outstanding contributions to the socialist musical culture of the GDR". Ursula Püschel (1 June 1930 – 10 August 2018) was a German literary critic, journalist and writer. One focus of her activities was the work of the writer Bettina von Arnim, a representative of the Vormärz-Literatur. Life Born in , after Abitur in 1948, Püschel studied history and German studies at the Humboldt University of Berlin. She completed her studies in 1952 with the Staatsexamen. Horst Seeger (6 November 1926 – 2 January 1999), pseudonyme ''Horst Schell'', was a German musicologist, music critic, dramaturg, librettist and opera director. Leben Born in Erkner, Seeger studied musicology at the Humboldt University of Berlin with Walter Vetter, Ernst Hermann Meyer and Hans-Heinz Dräger and worked as a music journalist and critic from 1954.
