William Haggas
William Haggas is a British Thoroughbred racehorse trainer, based at Somerville Lodge stables in Newmarket, Suffolk. He is the son-in-law of the multiple champion jockey Lester Piggott. He was educated at Harrow and played cricket at Lord's for Harrow against Eton in 1977, 1978 and 1979, captaining the side in the 1979 match. He started his working life in his father's textile factory, but quit after three months and headed to Newmarket. Before taking out a licence in his own right, he learnt his trade with John Winter and Mark Prescott. He trained his first winner in 1987. As of June 2013, he had trained two British Classic winners – Shaamit, winner of the 1996 Derby, and Dancing Rain, winner of the 2011 Oaks. The first of these came when he had just 40 horses in his stable. The second gave him the distinction of having two wins from his first two runners in the Epsom Classics. Rosdhu Queen
Rosdhu Queen (foaled 10 February 2010) is an Irish-bred, British-trained Thoroughbred racehorse and broodmare. In a racing career which lasted from July 2012 until August 2013 she won four of her eight races. As a two-year-old in 2012 she was one of the best fillies of her generation in Britain, winning all four of her races including the St Hugh's Stakes, Lowther Stakes and Cheveley Park Stakes. She failed to win in 2013 but finished fourth in the Fred Darling Stakes and produced arguably her best effort when finishing fifth in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes. At the end of her racing career she was sold to become a broodmare for the Coolmore Stud. Cheveley Park Stakes
The Cheveley Park Stakes is a Group 1 flat horse race in Great Britain open to two-year-old fillies. It is run on the Rowley Mile at Newmarket over a distance of 6 furlongs (1,207 metres), and it is scheduled to take place each year in late September. History The event is named after Cheveley Park, an estate purchased by Harry McCalmont in 1892. It was established in 1899, and the inaugural running was won by Lutetia. The race is currently held on the final day of Newmarket's three-day Cambridgeshire Meeting, the same day as the Cambridgeshire Handicap. The leading horses from the Cheveley Park Stakes often go on to compete in the following season's 1,000 Guineas. Hong Kong Derby
The Hong Kong Derby is a Hong Kong Thoroughbred horse race held annually since 1873. Restricted to horses four-years-old only since 1981, the race is run in mid-March and is the premier event on the domestic racing programme with a purse of HK$18 million (app. US$2.3 million). This race is the last race in the Hong Kong Four-Year-Old Classic Series. The first Hong Kong Derby was raced at Happy Valley Racecourse but in 1979 was transferred permanently to its present location at Sha Tin Racecourse. The International Topkapi Trophy is a Group 2 flat horse race in Turkey open to horses aged three years or older. It is run at Veliefendi Race Course over a distance of 1,600 metres (about 1 mile), and it is scheduled to take place each year in early September. Aqlaam (18 January 2005 – 5 October 2013) was a British Thoroughbred racehorse and sire (horse), sire. After finishing third on his only start as a juvenile he won both of his races as a three-year-old in 2008 including the Group races, Group 3 Jersey Stakes. He reached his peak in 2009 when he won the Summer Mile Stakes and the Prix du Moulin as well as finishing second in the Prix Jacques Le Marois and third in the Queen Anne Stakes. He showed some promise as a breeding stallion before dying on 5 October 2013 at the age of eight. Background Aqlaam was a bay horse with a small white star (horse marking), star bred in England by the Wiltshire-based Granham Farm. Chorist (foaled 11 February 1999) was a British Thoroughbred racehorse and broodmare. She was a consistent performer at eight to ten furlongs who improved through her four seasons on the track. After running unplaced on her only start as a two-year-old she won four races including the Upavon Fillies' Stakes as a three-year-old in 2002. She improved in the following year when she took the Hoppings Stakes, Golden Daffodil Stakes and Blandford Stakes. At the age of five in 2004 she reached her peak with wins in the Pipalong Stakes and Pretty Polly Stakes as well as finishing second in the Champion Stakes. After her retirement from racing she became a successful broodmare.
