William Bruce Harvey
William Bruce Harvey (June 2, 1907 – March 1, 1954) was a Canadian politician, who represented the electoral district of Nipissing in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1948 to 1954. He was a member of the Ontario Progressive Conservative Party. Background He was born to Isabella Gibson (1878–1948) and Robert Harvie (1874–1929) in Rutherglen, Lanarkshire, Scotland on June 2, 1907. In 1912, Robert and his oldest child Mary, sailed for Canada and settled in the Ottawa area. In June 1913, Isabella and William, along with three other siblings (Katie, Isabella and Jessie) sailed to Canada on the Teutonic and joined Robert and Mary in Ottawa. The purser of the Teutonic spelled the surname incorrectly and the family retained the new spelling of Harvey since all immigration documents used the ship's registry information. Elmdale-Victoria Ward
Elmdale Ward was a municipal ward in the city of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. The ward was created in 1929 when it was split off from Dalhousie Ward. It existed until 1994, when it was merged with Queensboro Ward to become Kitchissippi Ward. From 1952 to 1980, the ward was known as Elmdale-Victoria Ward, after Elmdale Ward merged with Victoria Ward. Elmdale Ward originally consisted of Ottawa's western suburbs, such as Civic Hospital and Hintonburg, but was later shifted west by an expanding Dalhousie Ward to its east. Leslie Miscampbell Frost (September 20, 1895 – May 4, 1973) was a politician in Ontario, Canada, who served as the province's 16th premier from May 4, 1949, to November 8, 1961. Due to his lengthy tenure, he gained the nickname "Old Man Ontario"; he was also known as "the Silver Fox". Early years Born in Orillia, Ontario, he was the son of William Sword Frost and Margaret Jane Barker. His father was a jeweller and mayor of Orillia; his mother was an important figure in the early days of The Salvation Army. He attended the University of Toronto and Osgoode Hall Law School. Charlotte Elizabeth Whitton (March 8, 1896 – January 25, 1975) was a Canadian feminist and mayor of Ottawa. She was the first woman mayor of a major city in Canada, serving from 1951 to 1956 and again from 1960 to 1964. Whitton was a Canadian social policy pioneer, leader and commentator, as well as a journalist and writer. The RMS ''Teutonic'' was an ocean liner built for the White Star Line in Belfast and was the first armed merchant cruiser. History Background In the late 1880s competition for the Blue Riband, the award for the fastest Atlantic crossing, was fierce amongst the top steamship lines, and White Star decided to order two ships from Harland and Wolff that would be capable of an average Atlantic crossing speed of .
