Wiedikon
Wiedikon is a district in the Swiss city of Zurich. It corresponds to District number 3 and comprises the neighborhoods of Alt-Wiedikon, Sihlfeld and Friesenberg. Zürich Wiedikon Railway Station
Zürich Wiedikon railway station (german: Bahnhof Zürich Wiedikon) is a railway station on the Zürich S-Bahn system in Wiedikon in the western part of the Swiss city of Zürich. It is the only railway station in Switzerland where the reception building is located like a bridge across the tracks – in German called Reiterbahnhof. The station is served by S-Bahn trains on the Lake Zürich left bank line approaching the city from the south and south-east directions. InterCity and InterRegio trains and the accelerated S25 service bypass the station through the Zimmerberg Base Tunnel since 2003. Subdivisions Of Zürich
The municipality of Zürich is divided into twelve districts (known as Kreis in German), numbered 1 to 12, each one of which may contain anywhere between 1 and 4 neighborhoods. There are a total of 34 neighborhoods. Zürich is also divided into 25 postal areas, roughly corresponding to small districts and neighborhoods of larger districts. Two large expansions of the city limits occurred in 1893 and in 1934 when the city of Zürich merged with many surrounding municipalities, that had been growing increasingly together since the 19th century. A3 Motorway (Switzerland)
The A3 is a motorway in northeast Switzerland, running diagonally from France toward the southeast border, and passing by Zürich on the way. The total length of the A3 motorway spans roughly , but parts of the road share sections of the A1 and A2 motorways. The A3 belongs to the Swiss motorway network. It starts at the border in Basel, where it connects to French motorway A35. From the Wiese Motorway Fork, the route is shared with the A2. At Augst, the motorway splits, with the A2 branching off and the A3 continuing past Rheinfelden and Frick. After the Bözberg tunnel is the Birrfeld Motorway Fork, near Birmenstorf. The ''Sihltal Zürich Uetliberg Bahn AG'' – commonly abbreviated to SZU – is a railway company and transport network in the canton of Zürich in Switzerland. Murerplan - Wiedikon
The Murerplan is a map of Zürich, printed in 1576 by Jos Murer (1530-1580). It was combined from six pearwood plates measuring 45 cm squared each. A smaller extra plate was made for the Grossmünster, which would otherwise have been divided between four plates. The original plates have not been preserved. The plates of a second edition of 1610 survive. Friesenberg
Friesenberg was a quarter in the district 3 of Zürich. Geography Situated at the southern slope of the Uetliberg mountain, Friesenberg was formerly a part of Wiedikon municipality, which was incorporated into Zürich in 1893. Demographics The quarter has a population of 10,360 distributed on an area of 5.15 km². Jewish cemeteries On 5 July 1865 the Jewish community, which at that time numbered 30 members, mentioned the acquisition of a field for applying a cemetery. On 31 May 1866 the Unterer Friesenberg cemetery was inaugurated on occasion of the first funeral of a Jewish woman in Zürich. In 1892 a cemetery hall was built, and after several expansions, a large second site was bought in 1916. Since the installation of the second cemetery in 1952, fewer and fewer burials were done at the very first Jewish cemetery in Zürich since the 14th century. The S2 is a railway service of the S-Bahn Zürich on the Zürcher Verkehrsverbund (ZVV) transportation network, and is one of the network's services connecting the canton of Zürich with the cantons of Schwyz and St. Gallen.
