Simian Mobile Disco are an English electronic music duo and production team, formed in 2003 by James Ford and Jas Shaw of the band Simian. Musically, they are known for their analogue production. Ford is also known for his production work. History Early history Simian Mobile Disco originally formed as a DJ duo, on the side of their early four-piece band Simian. They released a number of early tastemaker singles, such as "The Mighty Atom / Boatrace / Upside Down" on ''I'm a Cliché'' and "The Count", on Kitsuné, but gained more fame for their remixes of artists such as Muse, Klaxons, The Go! Team, Air and others. Anti- is an American record label founded in 1999 as a sister label to Epitaph Records. ''Unpatterns'' is the third studio album by English electronic music duo Simian Mobile Disco, released on 14 May 2012 by Wichita Recordings. Cover The deluxe edition of the CD was released with a back to front CD case. The reason for this is that the "rear" cover, which is screen printed with a set of wavy lines, together with the reverse-packed printed CD, form a moiré pattern which can be manipulated by rotating the CD in its case. Release The album was released on 14 May 2012 in the UK. The entire album was also released for free online through SoundCloud on the same day. In February, as a taster before the release, they posted the two-minute track "Fourteenth Principles" on their SoundCloud account. Critical reception ''Unpatterns'' received generally positive reviews from music critics. ''Welcome to Sideways'' is the fifth studio album by British electronic duo Simian Mobile Disco, released on 11 November 2016. Recording After touring wrapped up for their previous album ''Whorl'', the duo took a short hiatus in 2015. James Ford produced albums for Foals, Mumford & Sons, Florence & the Machine, the Last Shadow Puppets and Depeche Mode, while Jas Shaw built a new studio at his home in Kent and released a series of solo EPs born out of experiments in the studio. Shaw also continued DJing, "playing with more austere techno artists than we were with before". Ford and Shaw reconvened in early 2016 to work on new material, and announced a series of singles on their Delicacies label soon after. Initially the plan was to release four club-focused singles, totalling eight new tracks, though this was slightly revised following the completion of the album. Metacritic is a website that review aggregator, aggregates reviews of films, TV shows, music albums, video games and formerly, books. For each product, the scores from each review are averaged (a weighted arithmetic mean, weighted average). Metacritic was created by Jason Dietz, Marc Doyle, and Julie Doyle Roberts in 1999. The site provides an excerpt from each review and hyperlinks to its source. A color of green, yellow or red summarizes the critics' recommendations. It is regarded as the foremost online review aggregation site for the video game industry. Metacritic's scoring converts each review into a percentage, either mathematically from the mark given, or what the site decides subjectively from a qualitative review. The Official Albums Chart is a list of albums ranked by physical and digital sales and (from March 2015) audio streaming in the United Kingdom. It was published for the first time on 22 July 1956 and is compiled every week by the Official Charts Company (OCC) on Fridays (previously Sundays). It is broadcast on BBC Radio 1 (top 5) and found on the OCC website as a Top 100 or on UKChartsPlus as a Top 200, with positions continuing until all sales have been tracked in data only available to industry insiders. However, even though number 100 was classed as a hit album (as in the case of The Guinness Book of British Hit Albums) in the 1980s until January 1989, since the compilations were removed this definition was changed to Top 75 with follow-up books such as The Virgin Book of British Hit Albums book only including this data. The Official Charts (legal name: The Official UK Charts Company Limited) is a British inter-professional organization that compiles various "official" record charts in the United Kingdom, Ireland and France. In the United Kingdom, its charts include ones for singles, albums and films, with the data compiled from a mixture of downloads, purchases (of physical media) and streaming. The OCC produces its charts by gathering and combining sales data from retailers through market researchers Kantar, and claims to cover 99% of the singles market and 95% of the album market, and aims to collect data from any retailer who sells more than 100 chart items per week.
