Whiteout (band)
Whiteout were a British rock group from Greenock in Scotland, who were most famous for their hit "Jackie's Racing". Although they had existed in a different incarnation since the very early 1990s, the band's classic line-up consisted of Andrew Caldwell (vocals), Paul Carroll (bass), Eric Lindsay (guitar) and Stuart Smith (drums). The name came from a slang term for the disorientating effects of alcohol. History Recording Whiteout were the first guitar band to sign to the Silvertone label after their enormous success with the Stone Roses. Whiteout's principal recordings were the albums '' Bite It'' (1995) and '' Big Wow'' (1998). Their music was influenced by the country rock and glam rock of the early 1970s, as well as the aforementioned Stone Roses. Greenock (; sco, Greenock; gd, Grianaig, ) is a town and administrative centre in the Inverclyde council areas of Scotland, council area in Scotland, United Kingdom and a former burgh of barony, burgh within the Counties of Scotland, historic county of Renfrewshire (historic), Renfrewshire, located in the west central Lowlands of Scotland. "Jackie's Racing" is a song by Scottish rock band Whiteout, released in 1995 (see 1995 in music). It was the band's fourth single, released shortly before their first album, ''Bite It'', on which the song is featured also. The B-sides "Cousin Jane" and "So Confused" reappeared on the Japanese EP ''Young Tribe Rule'' later the same year. Music journalist M.C. Cover Version
In popular music, a cover version, cover song, remake, revival, or simply cover, is a new performance or recording by a musician other than the original performer or composer of the song. Originally, it referred to a version of a song released around the same time as the original in order to compete with it. Now, it refers to any subsequent version performed after the original. "Rocks Off" is the opening song on the Rolling Stones' 1972 double album ''Exile on Main St.'' Recorded between July 1971 and March 1972, "Rocks Off" is one of the songs on the album that was partially recorded at Villa Nellcôte, a house Keith Richards rented in the south of France during the summer and autumn of 1971. Overdubs and final mixing for the song were later done at Sunset Sound studios in Los Angeles, California between December 1971 and March 1972. Lyrics and composition The lyrics to the song, difficult to hear since the vocals were mixed very low, describe subjective dissociation, as if from intravenous drug injection. The song features a sudden divergence near the two minute fifteen second mark into a psychedelic jam of sorts, with Mick Jagger's vocals electronically distorted and phased, and the guitar chords stretched. Detroit (Whiteout Song)
"Detroit" is a song by Scottish rock band Whiteout, released as their third single in 1994 (see 1994 in music). Although it was not part of the band's debut album ''Bite It'' (1995) on its initial release, there is an expanded edition available which has "Detroit" added as a 13th track. The B-side "Dee Troyt" is a slowed-down, almost acoustic version of the single's title track with some alternate lyrics and layered harmonies reminiscent of The Beach Boys. The second B-side, "Just Passin' Through, Kid"—a country-esque instrumental song—also appeared as the last track on the Japanese EP ''No Time''. ''No Time'' is a song by Scottish rock band Whiteout, released as their debut single in 1994. Whiteout performed the song live on Channel 4's popular TV series '' The Word'' on 28 January 1994. Later that year, "No Time" also appeared as the title track on an EP of the same name which was released exclusively in Japan. In February 1995, the track was released once again as part of the full-length album ''Bite It''. The B-side "U Drag Me" is also featured on that album, but in a different version as the one included on this single. B-side
The A-side and B-side are the two sides of phonograph records and cassettes; these terms have often been printed on the labels of two-sided music recordings. The A-side usually features a recording that its artist, producer, or record company intends to be the initial focus of promotional efforts and radio airplay and hopefully become a hit record. The B-side (or "flip-side") is a secondary recording that typically receives less attention, although some B-sides have been as successful as, or more so than, their A-sides. Use of this language has largely declined in the 21st century as the music industry has transitioned away from analog recordings towards digital formats without physical sides, such as CDs, downloads and streaming.
