Wettingen–Effretikon Railway Line
The Wettingen–Effretikon railway line (sometimes called the ''Furttal Bahn'') is a standard-gauge railway line to the northwest of Zürich, Switzerland. It was opened on 15 October 1877 by the Swiss National Railway (''Schweizerische Nationalbahn''; SNB). The trains ran past Zürich to its north, which meant that it was not connected to this important centre of industry. This circumstance was one of the reasons for the bankruptcy of the company in 1878. The line was then taken over by the Swiss Northeastern Railway (''Schweizerische Nordostbahn''; NOB). It has been part of the network of the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) since 1902. Wettingen is a residential community in the district of Baden in the Swiss canton of Aargau. With a population about 20,000, Wettingen is the second-largest municipality in the canton. Geography Wettingen is located on the right bank of the Limmat, located in the Limmat Valley (German: ''Limmattal''), before the deep valley in Baden. Furttal
Furttal is the name of a valley region in Switzerland between Lägern and Altberg in the Dielsdorf district of the canton of Zurich. The area's name stems from the German word for ford, or ''furt'', and is named after the crossing over the Limmat in the community of Würenlos on the west side of the region. The Seebach-Wettingen railway electrification trial (1905-1909) was an important milestone in the development of electric railways.
